Congo Background information: In 2006, according to United Nations reports, 26,000 cases of rape were reported in the Eastern province of Kivu. These crimes are part of a long brutal history since WWII which we will get into. However, there is an URGENT need to protect women and help prosecute the criminals. Most women were not only raped, but gang-raped by on average 6-20 men. Many women were kidnapped and raped daily for months. Women as old as 85, and girls as young as 6. Moreover, most rape victims were also victims of sexual torture with foreign objects being put in their vaginas, including sticks, machetes, and guns. Some women have had guns fired inside their bodies. The physical result of such torture is often "fistula" - which is the tearing of the lining between the vagina and bladder. In real-world terms this means that these women can not control their bowels and are always leaking. Their condition needs surgery. Anyhow. These are the basic sexual facts.
