Welcome to the Indy Film Buffs Meetup group!

Meet with fellow film buffs- from the casual movie fan to the dedicated theater junkie- to watch movies and to talk about them. We strive to provide film buffs a welcoming and respectful environment designed to foster discussion and camaraderie, and to grow each other's knowledge and appreciation for film.

Programming:

All members are welcome at all of our Meetups. For new members who want to "try us out" and learn more about the group, we have a special "new member Meetup" at a restaurant or coffeeshop in odd numbered months.

Recurring Meetups include our bi-monthly Tuesday evening coffeeshop get-togethers on the second and fourth Tuesdays. These Meetups are a relaxed evening of talking about the movies we've seen recently, our favorite films, and anything else movie-related. The fourth Tuesday Meetup additionally features an in-depth discussion of the Movie of the Month (list of past MOTHs).

The second Saturday of the month is the "budget Meetup," when we see a new Hollywood release at the $5 before noon show and then discuss the movie over lunch and the third Saturday is "cult movie night" hosted by Gary, one of the IFB co-organizers.

We also see movies at different theaters around the city- including multiplexes, the Landmark Keystone Art Cinema, and the IMA's Toby Theater- throughout the month.

Communication:

RSVPs are highly encouraged for each Meetup. Use the event calendar to learn about upcoming Meetups and visit the message board to share your thoughts on the Meetups, the site, or film in general. You can also elect to receive e-mail notification of Meetups and other communications from the organizers.

How are we doing?

We are always interested in hearing your thoughts on the IFB Meetup group. If we are doing something you like, or maybe something that you feel we could do better, or you have a suggestion for a new Meetup please don't hesitate to get in touch with the Meetup Organizers, Gary and Helen.

History and mission:

This Meetup group was created in 2006 by the Indy Film Buffs (IFB), a local film club founded in 1997 by Jeff Faulkner. The mission of IFB is "to promote and encourage the discussion of films, the film industry, the craft of movie-making and how film influences popular culture, in addition to providing a social outlet for film enthusiasts."

IFB has been featured in Indianapolis publications including Indianapolis Star, NUVO, and InTake, and partnered with Mass Ave Video in 2007 for a free movie series commemorating the club's 10-year anniversary. In addition, IFB has fostered many strong friendships (and even a marriage!) over the years.
