Weeknight Movie: Before Midnight

Hi all! This Thurs. eve. come out and see Before Midnight at the Coolidge Corner Theatre (map/directions) if you haven't seen it yet and, like me, would like to catch it before it leaves the area.

Mea culpa: Sorry about both no movie this past week and the very short notice on this week's movie. See below for a likely schedule of future weeknight meetups that provides much more notice.

Weds. vs. Thurs.: I'm aiming to do these primarily on Weds. but figured that Thurs. this week might give a few interested folks a little more time to plan given the extremely short notice.

Oh yeah, the movie: In Before Midnight we meet Celine and Jesse nine years after their last rendezvous (Before Sunset, 2004).

Almost two decades have passed since their first encounter on a train bound for Vienna (Before Sunrise, 1995), and we now find them in their early forties in Greece. Before the clock strikes midnight, we will again become part of their story.

Like its predecessors, the film was directed by Richard Linklater. As with the previous film, Linklater shares screenplay credit with both lead actors, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.

Oh, and Before Midnight earned a mere 97% Tomatometer score and an even more appalling 95% Metascore from critics (including a perfect 100 Metascore from The Boston Globe's Ty Burr). Y'know, if you're into that sort of thing.

Finding the group: If you have any trouble finding the group beforehand, or you're running late and want to join the group afterwards, text me at [masked]. (I'll turn my phone off between 7:15 and 7:20, but turn it back on shortly after the credits begin for texts and, if necessary, hysterical waving.)

After the movie: For those who'd like to discuss the movie we can go to any of several places a short walk from the theatre, ranging from coffee shops to restaurants that serve. I have a couple of ideas, given the hour that many places close in that area, but that isn't my backyard so if people settle on a place, I'll be happy w/ that whether it means a nice tea, snack, and/or adult beverage.

Coming attractions

Weds., 6/26: Much Ado About Nothing, Kendall Square Cinema, time TBD

Between Joss Whedon, the modern adaptation, and the unbelievable cast, I simply have to see this the week it opens locally.   I hope others feel similarly.

Weds., 7/3: Despicable Me 2 in 3D, Fenway 13, 7:10

Well, since it's opening mid-week, why not?  Those interested will almost certainly have to purchase tickets in advance for this one.  (Also?  For real, I've never seen a movie in 3D before so I'll probably have tremors or something and make for an easy pickpocket victim.)

Weds., 7/10: Hannah Arendt, Coolidge Corner Theatre, both confirmation and time TBD

A suggestion for a historical biopic, which would've likely escaped my notice, from alert moviegoer and group member, Sean M.  (Btw, feel free to let me know about an upcoming release that sounds interesting to you; no promises, as there are things I'm unlikely to see, but I will always listen.)

Weds. 7/17: Weeknight Action Spectacular Spectactional Choice! Theater and time TBD (in more ways than one)

Assuming the following movies are both still playing locally we, or I should say those who RSVP, will be able to vote for either:

A) Man of Steel 3D or

B) World War Z 3D

We'll go see the one that gets the most votes. Of course if your choice comes up short, you can understandably change your RSVP to No or come with anyway.

(Also, please don't confuse this with Sophie's Choice; that was a totally different movie thing.)

Depending on the actual availability of the 7/10 and 7/17 movies, changes might include:

1) switching the two nights (if, say, Hannah Arendt arrives a week later),

2) adding a replacement action film on 7/17 if one has already left the area and

3) dismantling "Weeknight Action Spectacular Spectactional Choice!" if I get enough feedback that it's *so* dumb that I should just pick one movie instead.

I think we're solid through 7/3 though, as long as everyone who RSVPs Yes for Despicable Me 2 in 3D buys tickets well in advance. (I suppose to a much lesser degree the same could be said for Much Ado About Nothing the week before at the Kendall Square Cinema if it's shown on one screen only its first week...I've seen stranger sellouts there.)

I'll get individual meetups posted for these as soon as I get a chance.

Cheers,

Dave M.

    Are tix still available?

No reason not to get your ticket beforehand if you can. I try to arrive earlier than the given meeting time when hosting and, if early enough, I'll get my ticket before heading over to Panera Bread to wait for and meet folks. If I'm not early enough though, I'm not too worried about getting my ticket at 7 when we go to the theater as a group (given the movie, night, and venue in question of course).

Hey everyone, where do I meet the Meet up group at the movie theater? Thanks, Paul

    June 17, 2013

Hi Paul, good question, as it's a little hard to see the info you're asking about near the top of the page. It's in smaller type (that we can't control the size of) underneath the huge "Coolidge Corner Theatre" heading in the middle and near the top of this page. Below the theatre heading is the address and below that is some smaller text that starts off -- "Let's meet @ Panera Bread across the street from the theatre by 7:00..."

If you don't find that, reply to me here again. If you do find that, you'll see the texting-me fallback to connecting w/ the group as well. HTH! (Oh, and btw, this is likely 2 to 3x longer than any other movie meetup form you'll ever have to look thru, so sorry about that. I just needed a place to quickly make public a schedule of films for people to look at until I can add each movie as a nice concise invitation/calendar entry of its own.
