An extra Saturday night movie meetup is being scheduled

  • March 9, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Who:  Our Movie Meetup group

What: Alfred Hitchock's classic, 'Rear Window' (1954) [89 minutes]

When:  Saturday, March 9th @ 8 p.m. (movie begins @ 8 p.m.)

Where:  The Dryden Theatre on East Avenue, Rochester

Why:  Because it's one his best movies.  It was shown @ The Venice Film Festival and...recevied four (4) Academy Award nominations for 1954.

And, it'll be a fun time.

NOTE:  for those who'd like to socialize a little bit before the movie, we can meet in the The Dryden's cafe around 6:30 pm. Otherwise, meet us in the lobby around 7:30-ish and we'll go in as a group and be able to sit with each other.  I will check with The Dryden to see if they offer a group discount and then let you know.

Now, since Daylight Savings Time begins @ 2 a.m. on 3/10/13, IF anyone would like to take advantage of that extra hour and go out for coffee afterwards, please let me know - perhaps we could go to Starry Nights?

See you at the movies --

Caroline

Ruth - so glad you could be there Saturday night - I think everyone was a bit surprised by the crowd. Organizing events at The Dryden will take a wee bit of fine tuning and hope next time will be a little less chaotic.

I really enjoy the background information on the restoration process as well as the Hitchcock movie. I did not expect such a crowd and was worried that the theater would be sold out before I bought my ticket.

It was great to visit the (redone) Dryden last night - I enjoyed the movie and the lively conversations.

Interesting, fun people + a classic movie in a newly renovated theatre = a wonderful evening. Did everyone see Hitchcock's cameo appearance? haha. Does anyone know if he did that in all of his movies? Thanks to all of you for looking out for each other (and for saving me a seat! That place was PACKED!). We'll definitely to to the Dryden again. So sorry I missed spending time with a lot of you so we could catch up with 'what's new' - perhaps next time it'll be less chaotic re tickets, etc. Thank you to those hearty souls who ventured out with me afterward to The Old Toad - interesting place. 'Till next time....

I enjoy the variety of going to the Dryden sometimes. It was such a beautifully restored film -- I really enjoyed hearing about the restoration process. The Cafe people were very welcoming, & I think they enjoyed our coming there.

I really enjoyed hearing about the restoration of the film prior to watching - it made me appreciation the painstaking work that it took to allow us to watch it. It was great fun to chat with everyone, before and after the show. Besides I love Jimmy Stewart.

I liked the different choice--It was wonderful to go to the Dryden after its renovation. The movie was an excellent choice as well (Rear Window). I have never seen the movie, and really liked it--the majority of the group met at the cafe beforehand, where the food was good and the prices reasonable.

Just great time again. Glad the Dryden is back. And Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly were incomparable. ;<) Just wish I had had the energy to go out after the movie, instead of going straight to bed.

Hi Everyone: Reminder - we'll meet around 6:30 p.m. in the Dryden Cafe. For those who'd like to also go out after the movie, we'll be going to The Old Toad on Alexander Street. You may have to use the parking lot behind the restuarant (same one where we used to park when we went to Gusto's) - but please know: there will be a $5 fee to park - HOWEVER - bring the parking stub/ticket with you & receive $3 off a beverage. They'll be expecting us :-) Looking forward to meeting our newest members and reconnecting with returning friends. (BTW - I have zero concept of time: we loose an hour tomororw night - not gain an hour! Geez Louise...)

I am a member of Eastman House and I purchase a "Take 10" ticket which is discounted by $1.00 per movie.

I believe "Take 10" can be purchased by non-members as well.

I am looking forward to this movie and seeing all of you.

Just a note that Starry Nights has music starting around 8:00. It can get crowded, and altho' we can talk, we would have to keep it down out of courtesy to the musician(s).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
