The Little Theater Movie and Talk Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

  • October 5, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Welcome to our group. We see movies at the Little Theatre on East Ave. in Rochester on the first Saturday of the month. We meet at 6:00 - 6:15 near the cafe behind the ticket booth for cinemas 2-5. I usually send out suggested movies from among the 6:30 to 7ish showings. This allows us to get out of the theater at about the same time for talk. Pair up with people for a movie or join the general group. We agree to meet afterwards at a near by restaurant, Victoire on East Ave (2 block walk from the cinema toward downtown) for conversation about the movie, life, or toward wherever the conversation leads.

Join us to meet new people, see an interesting movie, and have a nice night out with good conversation, connection and companionship. All are welcome.

Hello all,

Here are some choices for movies to see on Saturday.  We have the late James Gandolfini and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in "Enough Said" (PG-13, 93 min., in Theater 2 at 7:10).  A comedy about the mess that happens when people try to get involved.  Baggage, please.

"Populaire" (R, 111 min., in Theater 3 at 6:40) is a French romantic comedy in French and German with English subtitles.  It harkens back to the slick, colorful American romantic comedies of the late 1950s.  Fun, fluff, and beautiful.

There are also two darker selections.  "Blue Caprice" (R, 93 min., Theater 4 at 7pm) is based on the true Beltway sniper attacks.  It is a psychological thriller based on the views of the two killers.  "Blue Caprice" explores the killers distorted father-son relationship which led to the fatal attacks.

"Parkland" (PG-13, 93 min., in Theater 5 at 6:50) tells the story of the JFK assassination through the eyes of several ordinary individuals that witnessed it and its aftermath.  The ordinary people are played by big actors: Zak Ephron, Colin Hanks, Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti).  Not so good review below.

Meet in the area just inside the door to the back theaters, near the cafe.  We mill about there starting at 6, drifting off to our theaters before our start times.  If we have more than 10, ask for the group discount for the movie group when you buy your ticket.  After your movief, we will try a new restaurant, Victoire, the Belgian Bar & Restaurant just a few blocks past Spot Coffee on East Ave.  I reserved some tables in the bar area.  If your group is there first, tell the hostess you are with the movie group and that we have tables reserved.

See you at the movies.

Enough Said was very enjoyable - the script and the acting were excellent. The dialog was so realistic, the way everyday people talk only funnier. James Gandolfini showed what a great actor he was - a total departure from Tony Soprano. Loved the Victoire! The staff said they would love to have us back and already have plans for how to accommodate us indoors.
Hey fellow commenters - careful with the spoilers, or lead in with an alert.

I enjoyed Populaire - styllistically fun set in '50s era decor and outfits, and I think we were all pleased with the happy ending. Still trying to imagine global typewriting competitions: fff,jjj :) Victoire afterwards was accommodating and nice setting for convos. Nice meeting some new people.

    Teresa,
The host typically will provide a description of the movies later in the day on Thursday. The Little updates the sched on Thursdays. People decide which movie they will see and then those who are so inclined will meet afterwards. The host will announce the place on Thursday also.

Possibly going for the rom-com as it has been a hectic week and light-heated might just be what the doctor orders.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
