Welcome to our group. We see movies at the Little Theatre on East Ave. in Rochester on the first Saturday of the month. We meet at 6:00 - 6:15 near the cafe behind the ticket booth for cinemas 2-5. I usually send out suggested movies from among the 6:30 to 7ish showings. This allows us to get out of the theater at about the same time for talk. Pair up with people for a movie or join the general group. We agree to meet afterwards at a near by restaurant, for conversation about the movie, life, or toward wherever the conversation leads.
Join us to meet new people, see an interesting movie, and have a nice night out with good conversation, connection and companionship. All are welcome.

Well, the cold snap has finally snapped (or un-snapped?), anyway it is warmer and easier to get out to see a movie at the Little. With the Oscar's coming up, you still have a chance to catch a nominated movie before the big show.
"American Hustle" (Rated R, 138 min. in Little 4 at 6:30pm) was nominated for Best Picture, Christian Bale as Actor in a Leading Role, Amy Adams as Actress in a Leading Role, Bradley Cooper as Actor in a Supporting Role, Jennifer Lawrence as Actress in a Supporting Role, Costume Design, Directing, Film Editing and many other categories. Check out an over the top review by Kenneth Turan, LA Times Film Critic.

There is also "Nebraska" (Rated R, 115 min. in Little 2(?) at 6:20pm) that grabbed nominations for Bruce Dern for Actor in a Leading Role and Best Picture. Check out a review by Peter Rainer (my fav. review now that Ebert has passed) from the Christian Science Monitor

"Inside Llweyn Davis"(Rated R, 105 min. in Little 4 at 6:50pm) was nominated for Cinematography and Sound Mixing. You know it has good music, and it is a Coen Brothers movie. Check out a review in The Village Voice by Stephanie Zacharek.

There is also a collection of the Oscar-Nominated Documentary Short Subject (Rated R, 85 min. in Little 2(?) at 7pm.) Here is a link to the screened films. Go down the page to find Documentary Short Subject and look at the previews.

If you are all Oscar-ed out, try "The Great Chicken Wing Hunt"(Not Rated, local director, 71 min. in Little 1 at 7pm), NOT nominated for an Oscar, but contains a talk-back after with chicken-wing eating contest winners and filmmakers in search of the perfect "Buffalo Chicken Wing."

Meet at the Little Theater near the ticket booth for Cinemas 2-5 (soon to be next to a new grocery store opening in the city) and look for the group. Ask "Is this the movie group?" Hang with other movie lovers and see who is seeing what. After seeing your movie, head over to "The Captain's Attic" on Charlotte St. (just a block away) for some good food, drink and discussion. If we have too many people attending, I will post and announce another venue. Stay tuned.
See you at the movies.
