The Little Theater Movie and Talk Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

  • Jun 1, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Welcome to our group. We see movies at the Little Theatre on East Ave. in Rochester on the first Saturday of the month. We meet at 6:00 - 6:15 near the cafe behind the ticket booth for cinemas 2-5. I usually send out suggested movies from among the 6:30 to 7ish showings. This allows us to get out of the theater at about the same time for talk. Pair up with people for a movie or join the general group. We agree to meet afterwards at a near by restaurant, Acanthus Cafe on East Ave (2 block walk from the cinema) for conversation about the movie, life, or toward wherever the conversation leads.

Join us to meet new people, see an interesting movie, and have a nice night out with good conversation, connection and companionship. All are welcome.

Couldn't join group because we went to "The Place Beyond the Pines" which didn't start until after 9. Great movie. Lots to think about after. Recommend it although one of my friends didn't like.

Jill, where did you find it...I know several of us were wondering? Nice to have met you. Thanks!

The YouTube video I found is in Norwegian - apparently with no subtitles. The Amazon Instant Video version is dubbed in English - so probably a much better choice for most of us! It's probably only a few dollars to stream without a Prime membership. Not available with Netflix streaming. Jill - I've been thinking about those steak subs...

I saw KonTiki and really enjoyed it. I think it's great that many of you are digging up more information. I've gotta get the documentary.

I enjoyed "Renoir" and the discussion after. Despite the rain, we had about 25 at Ancanthus. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

Sorry I missed everyone, I didn't bring my umbrella and drove around the block looking for a parking spot with no luck.

I think it is available on Youtube. That 1950 documentary won the Oscar in 1951. I might watch the documentary before going to see the movie. Everyone I talked to liked it. So much for reviews that mostly panned it.

Met some great folks watching Kon-Tiki and visiting afterward... Looked up the original 1951 documentary & have it tagged for future viewing!

Ever the skeptic, I wondered whether Heyerdahl's theory held up under modern science's DNA evidence. Turns out he was partially right. There is a little Native American DNA in today's Polynesians, but most of it is Asian, showing that Polynesia was initially primarily populated by Asians. Very entertaining movie (Kon-Tiki), whether he was right or not, he was quite exceptional.

Kon-Tiki was inspiring; how wonderful it is to see a person relentlessly pursue his idea/hypothesis...and ultimately change the traditional thinking on that topic. Also appreciate those ancient explorers who had made the trip in the first place. Great chats afterwards!

Kon-Tiki is a motivational film that depicts Heyerdahl's faith in his theory and the lengths that he would go to in support of it.
Beautifully filmed. On a personal note, this film has inspired me to pursue a dream of mine that seemed out of reach. The right film at the right time.

I met a few ladies and the enjoyed the film, "the Great Gatsy" I know the reveiws for this film were not good but I enjoyed the visual treat and had forgotten the story so it was all new to me again.
