The Great Gatsby in 3D!!!

Let's meet in the lobby 6:15-6:30ish for the 6:45 show.

I typically don't like 3D movies unless the film is either stop-motion animation (Paranorman, Coraline, Frankenweenie) or a drama, as counterintuitive as that sounds.  I feel big action movies don't work well with 3D because there's just so damn much camera movement and action flying around that my eyes never settle enough to appreciate the effect.  For example, my favorite 3D scene in Avatar, bar none, was when the drill seargant is lecturing a class of students.  Seriously.  The depth of field between the rows of seats was amazing.

Anyway, although I know next to nothing about Gatsy, I do know that as a director Baz Luhrmann has an amazing visual style and I can only imagine what those lush set peices will look like in 3D on a mammoth screen.  Also, WGBH's film critic Jared Bowen raved about this one.  And I dig Jared's taste.

I agree with Veronica. It was true to the book and Leonardo DiCaprio plays an excellent Jay Gatsby. Yesterday, I pictured Gatsby and I saw Robert Redford. Now I picture DiCaprio.

I am not a 3-D fan , yet I really enjoyed the movie. Terue to the book and despite some very negative reviews, I think it conveyed the mood of the era, the excesses and absurdities. I agree with Dan about the music, yet it did not detract from my enjoyment of the film. Great cast, good acting. Much better than the 1974 version with Redford and Farrow.

Very good movie. The modern music definitely seemed out of place but luckily it was mostly just toward the beginning. Great acting all around.

Rats, I thought it was at 7:00 p.m. It sounds like maybe I should just skip it. If I get out of work late it will be dark in there and I will never find you guys!

Sorry Lori-Ann, i take part of the blame for that. There's usually a showtime between 7 and 7:30 for most movies but I guess since this is a longer one...

Have we decided on a showtime yet? I usually look up movie times at moviefone.com.

Great suggestion but the third Tuesday of every month is wine dinner night with the Crawlers. Have fun; it's a great story.

I know, I had that on my short list but have decided against it due to a couple reasons, one being that i'm broke!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
