See Robocop (first Friday showing of national release)

The year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years - and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line.

Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it when Alex Murphy - a loving husband, father, and good cop - is critically injured in the line of duty.

OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop (part-man, part-robot police officer) in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine.

Cast includes Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Samuel Jackson, and Miguel Ferrer.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. The story was not too obvious, the visual effects enhanced rather than dominated the film, José Padilha's direction was effective, relative newcomer Joel Kinnaman's portrayal of Alex Murphy was poignant yet believable, and Gary Oldman displayed yet another perspective to his superb acting chops.

FYI, gun battles using IMAX LFE (low frequency effects) don't hurt the experience either!

Thanks to those who were able to go out afterwards for dinner, and participate in an enjoyable discussion of the film (plus other movies) ....

This is my first meet up with you guys. Where do you gather at the theater and about what time?

Hi Liz, we usually meet in the movie line (or in front of the concessions area if it's a less popular showing or time). I'll probably be there early around 5:30 to stake out a place for us.

I don't know if I can hold spots for all 10 of us, but we'll see how many people can actually show up. Thanks ...

Tickets are still available. I would venture a guess that Robocop isn't a very romantic movie for valentine's day. So all you procrastinators like me should still be able to get tickets.

I'll have to pass on this one. I work at 7a.m. on sat. Seems like I'm not "meeting up" too much. Hope to share a movie with everyone soon enough. Enjoy!

I realize this is Valentine's Day, so I might consider re-scheduling even though seeing this movie and having a nice meal afterwards (with the right person or friends) works for me.

Tickets are not on sale yet, but I will notify the group when they become available.
