Things are crazy around this time of year but tonight is "the calm before the storm" for me, and with it being just one day shy of the Mayans' premonition of 12/21/12, what better movie to watch than disaster maestro Roland Emmerich's 2012?!?
Yes, he makes the epitome of Hollywood garbage and excess, BUT (a) the disaster genre is a guilty pleasure of mine and (b) I've seen this once and even though it's got some majorly cheesy aspects, it is IMO by far Emmerich's best effort yet at this genre (he also did Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow, etc).
After all, how can you go wrong with Woody Harrelson playing the token crazy homeless guy who's more in tune with the impending storm than the climate scientists? Furthermore, the visuals and sound are amazing so I say it's a great pick to show off my new system (60 inch plasma and 5.1 surround setup) !
I live in Millbury and will disclose the address and my contact info in a private email to the members who sign up. Please plan on arriving about 6:30 to get settled and chat a bit, and the movie starts at 7:00 sharp. It's two and a half hours long and it's a LOUD movie so I really can't start it any later.
Feel free to bring munchies and/or adult beverages for yourself, but please do not feel obligated to do so. I expect nothing in return besides a good time had by all. I'll have unlimited Brita-filtered water, yay!
And as a reminder I do have a cat. He will be locked away in the bedroom but just wanted to give you fair warning in case you're allergic. I also have a private patio which smokers can feel free to use for a smoke break if they wish. Just don't expect me to pause the movie while you do that ;)
Hope you can make it!
