Part 2: Discussion

The Discussion will be held at 8:00 PM at the Versailles Diner, 516 Route 46 East, Fairfield 07004 (973) 227 - 0508. You don't have to make the dinner to attend the discussion. We ask that you make a purchase of some sort to support our host. Coffee and dessert is fine. They will do separate checks for us.

The evening's topic will be Parasites & Symbionts in science fiction, fantasy and horror.  Both parasites and symbionts inhabit other creatures, but parasites are harmful to their hosts while symbionts are beneficial or at least neutral.

Any film in which someone is possessed is essentially a film about a parasite.  There have been lots of stories, movies, comic books, and television shows featuring aliens or supernatural creatures acting as one or the other.  The discussion will include all of these media.

We had a good time. Six of us dined, with two more joining us later. Mark was fun, I'm glad he made it. There were far too many works cited to recount. Basically, any movie or book with demonic possession is a variant on the parasite theme. Just of the few movies, books, and TV shows were the movies Alien, The Puppet Masters, The Host, The Hidden; episodes of TV shows like The Outer Limits, Star Trek (various incarnations), Futurama and Doctor Who; book included Pet Cemetery, The Shining, Needle and The Reality Dysfunction. We also talked about comic books and anime series.
