Chicago Film Festival: Caesar Must Die @ River East

Tickets are $14.  Please arrive early and purchase in advance as some screenings will sell out quickly.

Original Title: Cesare deve morire
Director: Paolo and Vittorio Taviani
Italy
Italian with subtitles
76 min

Synopsis:
Winner of the Golden Bear at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, this docudrama from the Taviani brothers (Padre Padrone) captures the preparations for a staging of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar in Rome’s Rebibbia Prison. The performers - inmates, some of whom have been jailed for murder and other violent crimes - bring powerful new layers of meaning and emotion to the canonical play. Caesar Must Die is a memorable, emotional meditation on the transformative power of artistic production.

Because meeting up at festival screenings can somethimes be a little tricky, I'd recommend arriving at least a half hour before the posted start time. As we may need to take our seats 5-10 minutes before the film starts, we'll also look to connect after the screening, near the concessions.
