Esquire IMAX Theatre
This may not be this group's cup of tea - IMAX 3D (expensive!) science fiction - but the director, Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth), is one of my favorites. Currently at 72% positive reviews from critics, 85% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. "As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse." Sounds like a lot fun... if you like that sort of thing. My wife Linda doesn't, so I'm on my own for this one!
You can buy tickets in advance at the Esquire IMAX website. Be sure you're getting the right movie (Pacific Rim), the right day (tomorrow - Saturday), and the right time (1:00pm). You can choose your seat - I'm in seat J18 if you'd like to sit nearby.
But be warned: tickets are NOT CHEAP - no special matinee pricing, senior discounts for 65+ - and there's an additional service charge for buying through the website.
We'll meet in the lobby at 12:45 for a 1:00pm showing. And as we usually do, we'll sit through the credits and then meet in the lobby for discussion afterwards. There are lots of place to eat nearby, if anyone's interested in a bite afterwards. (Or a drink? - Esquire Grill makes a great Manhattan!)
If you park in the garage at 10th & L (same lot we use for the Crest), the IMAX theatre validates. Remember to bring your parking stub, and allow a few extra minutes to walk the four blocks to the theatre.
