I had a great time last night! I agree the movie didn't have too much of a story line but everything else made up for it - from the assortment of cakes you could try (delicious by the way) to seeing so many people dressed up like it was "back in the day" and also hearing about the history of the movie theaters. I thought it was interesting how the theaters didn't have a time set for you to know when a movie was starting and you just showed up at whatever time, watched whatever point the movie was that you wanted to see and then stayed for it to start again so you could see that part that you had missed. Now that is something that theaters could never get away with today. The price was perfect (just 75 cents!) and the fact that you could possibly win one of the raffle prizes just topped it off. I look forward to another Meet Up in the near future.

To the people I was talking with after the movie: The Matthew McConaughey movie I was trying to remember the title of - the one written by John Grisham, with Sandra Bullock - was called "A Time to Kill." (And to everybody else: sorry for such an otherwise irrelevant message!) That was really fun last night! Linda and I weren't all that impressed by the movie - it seemed like the studio felt that an exotic locale, strange characters, and unusual lighting and camera angles could hide the fact that the movie didn't have much of a story. On the other hand, it was so fun to see shorts, cartoons, and newsreels again, and the talk by John Sittig was very informative.

thanks Elizabeth. I just did it! Karen no need for us to buy tickets for others unless u think a few extra would be a good idea. I probably will get there a little after 6 pm.

I just purchased a ticket online for $0.75 at www.fandango.com after calling the theater. All they will do is swipe my credit card when I get there to print out my ticket. THERE IS NO EXTRA SERVICE CHARGE FOR THIS SHOW. It is quite possible that I will arrive at 6:15 p.m. to ensure I get a good parking spot. But, if you do what I have done there is no earthly reason to arrive earlier. You are welcome to confirm this with the theater: 442-0985. If you arrive little later you might want to park on Land Park Drive where there are no parking restrictions a little further down, I'm told.

The meetup says we're gathering at 6:30. Should this be changed to 6 pm?

    November 10, 2013

Too bad they can't commemorate the anniversary by restoring the theater back to its former glory, un-doing the tri-plexing that happened in the 70s! This is one theater I don't ever go to, as I don't patronize theaters that have been split. (Same goes for the Century domes, which are the oldest theaters in the area that have been continuously showing first-run movies. Those were great theaters with HUGE screens and over 1000 seats, but those were split in half into awkwardly-shaped theaters. I don't know why people continue to go there especially!)

I heard the Tower once had a Cinerama screen. As beloved as this theater is it's a shame that it's been owned by people who don't care about it.

I agree, if there was enough $,I would like local High school bands to play music before each mattinee. Wouldn't that be a support of the arts!!!!

Heather, I'm less than 5 minutes away. I can meet you there and purchase tickets. Let me know what time.

    November 10, 2013

it might be strategic for the first few people who get there to save some seats and purchase a few extra tickets. about 18 signed up, usually 3/4 of our group comes. I can arrive early and purchase a few extra tickets. Anyone else?

With all of the publicity this is getting & the price, I hope everyone will fit in the theater.

    November 8, 2013
