The Lunchbox

From Rotten Tomatoes:

"Middle class housewife Ila is trying once again to add some spice to her marriage, this time through her cooking. She desperately hopes that this new recipe will finally arouse some kind of reaction from her neglectful husband. She prepares a special lunchbox to be delivered to him at work, but, unbeknownst to her, it is mistakenly delivered to another office worker, Saajan, a lonely man on the verge of retirement."

Sorry it disappointed you -- I feel hopeful that he will find her since he was asking the "lunchbox" guys -- I want to believe that they will eventual track each other down. A few days ago on NPR the guy that did the Harvard study around the devlivery system was talking about how accurate they system is ... loved that line in the movie re has to be right even Harvard studied us ... anyway again sorry you were disappointed.

Dave talks of "skepticism", I am the first to find it hard to believe a lot of of those lunch contianers don't got lost in the shuffle yet I am also not surprised that they have their system down-and everyone gets their lunch-and takes it for granted...

This movie disappointed me. It seems like almost a formula now that so many films leave me-empty-with no resolution. I am left to decide for myself what may have happened-I think that is a cop out! Why could not these two have gotten together? It would have been so easy. Instead I lost some of my respect for the male lead who seemed so deserving at first. By not approaching the young woman in the resturant he miss an opportunity of a life time. No excuse, he blew it and that left me cold. Oh well, still a nice little movie until the very end...

Hi Tom- Like you I wasn't sure if he was going to find her in the end and felt that left a melancholy tone at the end of the film. I didn't feel the evidence was presented to support a definitive conclusion either way. Interestingly almost everyone else who attended immediately disagreed with me. Optimism versus skepticism I guess.

I am the perennial optimist and the romantic in me so wanted those two to get together in the end because they both deserved to be happy(ier). Oh well, I still enjoyed the film, just didn't get the pay off I wanted... :(

Thanks to everyone who attended. I enjoyed this well written and directed film from a first time feature director. I was really impressed by how so much of the story was conveyed in non-verbal ways, primarily through facial expressions and the notes. ( In contrast "Auntie" was nothing but verbal.) That's an approach that film really lends itself to where you can get those tight close-ups of faces and the director/writer really understood how to achieve that. He directed a number of short films and had a script developed through a Sundance development program prior to this film. http://www.riteshbatra.com/about.html

Thanks Dave for organizing this sweet film -- the character reminded me of Gloria -- thanks Dave and for all who attended!
