UPDATE: Roger Ebert biopic "Life Itself" Crest Theatre

My wife, Linda, called the Crest box office today (Friday) and they said there are plenty of tickets left. That being said, there are only two showings and I'm worried that it will be crowded and could possibly sell out. I'm going to pay a few extra bucks to buy advance tickets at Tickets.com, and I've moved our meetup time 15 minutes earlier so we can go in and get seats if it looks like it's filling up.

So let's meet at 1:30 for a 2:00 showing. There's free parking with validation at 10th St garage between K&L. Look for Chip in the lobby, stick around afterwards for discussion.

Thanks for organizing this, Chip. Enjoyed it very much. This was the parody that I mentioned during the talk afterwards -

      Wonderful - thanks!

Roger Ebert gave it 3 stars. (I'm not kidding.) "The grab bag is tied together by two dinosaur movie critics, sitting in a balcony and discussing the films. You've got to hand it to Vinton. The purple tyrannosaur on the left looks exactly like Gene Siskel." Here's his review: http://www.rogerebert...

Since I have been feeling relatively "old" lately, this movie troubled me a little. I believe Ebert was around 71. I am not too many years removed from that number :( It made me relalize more then I may have in the past the importance of having a partner. For much of the movie the wife wasn't mentioned but when she was, and quite a lot, I was so comforted by her support, (as I doubt I would do anywhere near as well with a gapping hole in my jaw-with or without someone by my side). Hard to watch but well worth the viewing. You will all really enjoy "Boyhood" I believe...

Thanks, Chip, and everyone. Nice to see everyone. Great choice of movie for a film buff outing! Now we can appreciate Roger Ebert's interesting life even more. Great to learn about his wonderful wife, Chaz, too.

Do we need to buy advance tickets? Where is a good place to meet in the lobby so people will be easy to find?

    July 31, 2014

    • Chip

Robin - I'm buying advance tickets online. The Crest is only having two showings, and the movie is currently showing at only one other theater in town. (Note that I've also moved the meetup to 1:30 - 15 min. earlier.) As to where, we usually gather in the lobby roughly across from the ladies' restroom. But just look for us - we should be the only large group loitering there.

I heard an NPR interview with Roger Ebert's wife. Sounds like the film will be interesting. See you there!

I was in Ashland all last week, have a house that I rent up there, great theater and restaurants.

Should have loved to have seen this, but I will be up in Ashland attending the Shakespeare Festival.

Just left Ashland yesterday-stayed at the Ashland Springs Hotel. The hillsides are beautiful right now. Have fun!

I heard on NPR this is an excellent movie (from the Director who did Hoop Dreams)! Unfortunately I'll be out of town, so maybe next time.
