Dir:Paolo Sorrentino

Starring: Sean Penn, Frances McDormand, Judd Hirsch

 IT/FR/IE 2011, 118mins

Sorrentino (IL DIVO) has chosen an unusual sort of road movie for his first foray into English language filmmaking. Penn plays oddball retired rock star, Cheyenne who lives a reclusive existence just outside Dublin. The quiet of his lifestyle is disturbed when his father falls ill and he is drawn back to America. The stunning vistas of America’s heartland are the perfect backdrop to Cheyenne’s offbeat odyssey throwing up one droll and surreal encounter after another, matched perfectly by a marvellous score from the unlikely combination of Talking Head’s David Byrne and Will Oldham.

Going for the earlier showing at 6pm (leaves time for drink/discussion after), but can change it to the later one at 8.30pm if that would suit people better.   Just leave a comment below.

I went with an open mind, but wasn't sure about this film to be honest. I think Sean Penn is a great actor and clearly now chooses his characters carefully, but I'm not sure if it was him, the character or the plot. Will give it another shot when it's on DVD. Great cinematography though.

Excellent, the more I think of. Still not clear what the message was (hope not that you need to smoke to become an adult :-)) but dialogs, photography and actors were excellent... and the song!

Quite a strange film. Not sure what to make of it but it had some funny moments and some quite moving moments.

Just to confirm that we will be meeting to see the 6pm showing of the film tonight. We'll meet outside (if it's raining I'll loiter inside). Meeting for 6pm to go in at 6.10pm. Look forward to seeing you all later.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
