  • Kayak For A Cure™ Columbus Announces 6th Annual Event

Last year, the local 2013 Kayak For A Cure event raised $2342.50.  All funds raised through Kayak for a Cure™ Columbus are donated to Nationwide Children’s Center for Childhood Cancer whose mission is to expand the understanding of the pathogenesis of childhood cancer and to improve strategies for diagnosis and treatment. You can join our fight against cancer by kayaking for a cure.

    Hope Floats… join us today!

We will launch at Genoa Park and paddle north of Confluence Park then return to Genoa Park. The paddle will take approximately 2 hours depending on water levels further upstream.

Your RSVP on this site does not solidify your entry into the event.  Please click here for official registration information.

Kayak for a Cure™ was launched in 2006 by a group of twenty-somethings in Vancouver, BC, from an idea that started right here in DAYTON. Our group was eager to start something special – something scalable and fun while providing legitimate funding to Cancer Societies and research facilities, respectively. Something that could build community, provide an amazing one-day kayaking experience and raise money for cancer research and prevention. Kayak for a Cure™ is a volunteer-run organization and gives 100% of their proceeds to charities close to their hearts. Each summer, in cities around the United States and Canada, paddlers – both beginners and experienced – climb in to kayaks (and canoes) and paddle on waterways, bays, lakes, rivers and channels for two reasons: an excuse to have a great day in the outdoors with some amazing people, and to be part of the solution: fund the research that leads to cures for all types of cancers.

Kenny, Dan from Great Miami Outfitters called to inform me that the Dayton Kayak For a Cure event has been CANCELLED for 2014.
I will speak with one of the K4C organizers today to have this info pulled down from their site. I am heading up the rescheduled event here in Columbus... and would like to have all the people from Dayton to join us at Alum Creek State Park on September 20th 2014 starting at 10:30 AM.
I have a meeting tomorrow (Sunday) evening to work out more of the details. As soon as I can get details nailed down I will share them with you to broadcast to our members.
    Safe paddling! ;-)

The August 23rd date is CANCELLED!

Bob, I notice that you posted an additional date on the calendar. Was this event cancelled for this date and location? If so, we should cancel the event and notify of the new date/venue so that the members are aware of the change. I would hate to see someone drive a distance to find this information is incorrect.

The August 23rd date was cancelled... the new date will be September 20th. They are aware of the problem and supposedly are taking it down... not my circus. I will be with one of the organizers Saturday to scout out a new venue... I will follow-up to see the 8/23 info is removed.

Sure... I was a volunteer at the event last year. With all the assistance from OSU students, it was a piece of cake. They will likely have rental boats available again this year for newbies wanting to try kayaking! ;-)

Hey Sponge Bob, do you want to coordinate this group so everyone knows where to meetup? I will be at Red River Gorge that weekend hiking. Sounds like a blast.
