Paint Creek Water Release

  • Oct 9, 2011 · 11:30 AM
  • Blain Highway Bridge

Paint Creek Reservoir will be releasing water on October 8 and 9. We will put in at the Blain Highway bridge and take out in Chillicothe at the Paint St./ 727 bridge. Parking is very limited, so please car pool. We will meet at 10:15, leave at 10:30, at the Lowes, 3899 S. High Street/ Rt 23 inside of 270. For those of you who where already planning on car pooling, two or more kayaks per car, can either meet us at 11:30 at Blain Highway Bridge or 10:30 at the Lowes.

This is a 12 mile section that should take 4 to 6 hours depending on how fast the flow of water. We will be going through the Buzzards Roost Nature Preserve. Please check back here the night before to make sure nothing changes. Sometimes they cancel the releases. Please bring a dry bag with a full change of clothes, PFD, lunch and something to drink.

My cell is[masked]-9022. Please cancel your RSVP or call to let me know that you can not make it.

This is a good time for the whitewater paddlers to go up to the Paint Creek Chutes, and then meet us latter. I wish I had the right gear! The release starts at 10:00 a.m. If you want to try to do both, let me know if the timing needs adjusted.

Beautiful weather, fast water, great group made for a wet and wild afternoon. Changing original Paint Creek plan led to a wonderful second trip down the Rocky Fork; also with fast water. A swamping trip on the 'chutes' was a culmination to a full fall day.

Great company and beautiful weather. We ended up putting in further up on the Paint (Rt. 41) where the water was higher. Then we took a side trip down the Rocky Fork, and two paddler went on through the chutes.

I think address of Lowes is 3899 S. High, not 899 S. High.
