Explore Little Walnut Creek Above Hoover!

Plan to meet at the Meijers store in Westerville at 9am. Meet in the far northeastern parking lot area close to the garden center. Depending on how many RSVP, we might consider consolidating our boats on as few vehicles as possible. Parking is somewhat limited at the put in.

This will be a flat water paddle ending at the same place we put in at. Bring a sack lunch, plenty of water and your cameras and binoculars. Bug spray might be a plus also. We will be heading north on the Little Walnut up to and past S. Galena Rd where we will stop for lunch. You can expect see a few warblers migrating their way north. We might also see Barred Owls, Beavers, Red Tailed Hawks and Deer.

The creek has very little current and can be paddled either direction with ease. I’ve been a regular on the Little Walnut for many years now. For the last 6 years, the L Walnut had several log jams which prevented paddling north of S Galena Rd. However, those log jams have been cleared and its now possible to paddle almost to Cheshire Rd. Plan to explore the area for 3 to 4 hours, possibly more if anyone wants to. This trip is suitable for beginners.

The water was a little low but the trees and wildlife was great. Our small group had the only boats on the water, very nice.

Pretty wooded banks - a number of logs to get over and if there had been moving water, all the better. But it was still a really fun paddle! And weather was perfect (how did Randy know!)
NICE group and had a good time.
