Ota Memorial Museum of Art will hold an exhibit of Ukiyo-e prints on the theme of cats for 2 month between June 1st and July 26th. The show will take place in two parts, and we will see the first half for this meetup. I am not particularly a cat person but grow to like Ukiyo-e prints of cats after seeing wonderful works of Kuniyoshi. Kuniyoshi adored cats and created a countless number of woodcut prints in which he depicted the favorite animal of his in all sorts of manners. The exhibition will showcase cat prints of Kuniyoshi as well as his disciples and follow Ukiyo-e artists of the Utagawa school, including Hiroshige. Let's check out how these artists saw cats and used them as motifs of their works.
