Meetup Description: John Everett Millais - Giant of the Victorian Age
Have you seen a poster of this exhibition which has been pasted all over Tokyo? The painting reproduced in it is "Ophelia," and those who have taken art history classes must be familiar with it. I, myself, first learned about this work when I took an introductory course in Art history. Back then, I was obsessed with Avant-garde art, so I did not pay much attention to it though I found it to be beautiful and mysterious looking. As I learned more about Art history, I grow to respect the principle of "Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood," a 19th century British art movement to which Millais belonged, but did not really explored the art movement besides checking out some works by Rossetti, the most famous artist from the movement. To be honest, I forgot about "Ophelia". However, I was impressed with the beauty of the work when I saw the poster of this exhibition. And a member of this meet up group suggested to check out the show, so I decided to plan a meetup event to check it out.
Museum Admission Fee: ?1,400
Chat session after the show
Let's get together after the museum show and chat about it. We can probably go to "Les Deux Magots," which locates right in front of the exit of the museum. Let's say, we spend a hour or a hour and half to see the show, and get together again at the cafe.
I was away from Tokyo for a while, so I ended up posting the notice in the last minutes again. I am sorry about that. I hope some of you guys are still available to participate to this meetup event.
