de Young Museum: Art of Bulgari Exhibit, and Live Music by Club Foot Orchestra

  • Sep 20, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Two events following an Italian theme, one is free and the other is open to de Young museum members only. Since many in our group are members of the de Young Museum, we can attend the opening of The Art of Bulgari: La Dolce Vita & Beyond,[masked], from 5-6p. At 6:00p the Friday Night activities, free to the public consist of art-making, lectures and live music. The evening presents us an opportunity to delve into the theme by dressing "Italian" in sort of a camp way. I remember the movie characters of Italian films I've seen having a certain style in dress and manner that had quite an appeal. It will be fun to come as your inner "Italian".

From the press release:
Live music by Richard Marriott with the Club Foot Orchestra, featuring Pamela Z and film projections celebrating Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor, and themes of La Dolce Vita. Founded in 1983 by San Francisco composer and multi-instrumental wind expert Richard Marriott, Club Foot Orchestra has earned international renown performing dramatic, intricately jazz-infused original scores for classic silent films.

The Art of Bulgari: La Dolce Vita & Beyond, 1950–1990 presents approximately 150 show-stopping pieces from this era, along with sketches and other materials from the Bulgari archives. The exhibition takes a decade-by-decade look at Bulgari’s innovations in jewelry design with a particular focus on important American clients and on several striking pieces from the Elizabeth Taylor collection.

The schedule will be: gather at the meeting point 6p, see artist-in-residence, see Club Foot Orchestra 6:30, and around 7:45 gather at museum cafe for socializing, eat/drink to 8:30. Those that want to see the Bulgari exhibit will get together at 4:45.

Members who RSVP must attend all the activities and socialize with the members in keeping with the spirit of meet-up. Please don't RSVP if your intention is otherwise.

Had a good time with the sister group. Bulgari exhibit was amazing, uniquely displayed and lighted to accentuated the quality of the pieces.

For both events, let's meet just inside the main entry to the right at the listed time. There will be a no-host bar. I won't have internet access anytime after 4p if you have last second questions.

I'd love to attend if someone wants to bring me as a "guest" ... I am not a DeYoung member, unfortunately. :(

I've already promised my guest ticket but hopefully the other members have a guest ticket. If not, come for the music at 6:30.

We'll be joined by members of the Live Jazz meet-up group who are more interested in the music than the art, but still, they area a fun group to mix with.

de Young museum members can order Bulgari preview tickets online for themselves and a guest for Sep. 20, 5p time slot. I suggest printing them rather than using will call. Make sure you get the second bar code. We can offer them to meet-up members who want to go.
