Two events following an Italian theme, one is free and the other is open to de Young museum members only. Since many in our group are members of the de Young Museum, we can attend the opening of The Art of Bulgari: La Dolce Vita & Beyond,[masked], from 5-6p. At 6:00p the Friday Night activities, free to the public consist of art-making, lectures and live music. The evening presents us an opportunity to delve into the theme by dressing "Italian" in sort of a camp way. I remember the movie characters of Italian films I've seen having a certain style in dress and manner that had quite an appeal. It will be fun to come as your inner "Italian".
From the press release:
Live music by Richard Marriott with the Club Foot Orchestra, featuring Pamela Z and film projections celebrating Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor, and themes of La Dolce Vita. Founded in 1983 by San Francisco composer and multi-instrumental wind expert Richard Marriott, Club Foot Orchestra has earned international renown performing dramatic, intricately jazz-infused original scores for classic silent films. http://www.sfjazz.org/events/season1/club-foot-orchestra
The Art of Bulgari: La Dolce Vita & Beyond, 1950–1990 presents approximately 150 show-stopping pieces from this era, along with sketches and other materials from the Bulgari archives. The exhibition takes a decade-by-decade look at Bulgari’s innovations in jewelry design with a particular focus on important American clients and on several striking pieces from the Elizabeth Taylor collection. http://deyoung.famsf.org/deyoung/exhibitions/art-bulgari-la-dolce-vita-beyond-1950-1990
