SF Contemporary Art Galleries

As art enthusiasts it is important to see contemporary art in the galleries. The gallery tour has many outstanding artists. Of note of our bi-monthly meetup are:

Group Exhibit at Nichols Gallery,
Poetics of Construction at Haines Gallery,
Alfredo de Stefano at Koch Gallery,
Unphotographable at Fraenkel Gallery,

and many other photography, painting and mixed media exhibits that art enthusiasts will enjoy, ponder and be influenced in a positive way. Please join us.

“First Thursday” is when a number of SF galleries stay open later for the public 5:30-7:30, the first thursday of the month. 49 Geary St. is where well-known contemporary art galleries like Fraenkel, Haines, Koch, Wiriz, and more are located. Unlike the museums, art in the galleries is generally edgier, sometimes controversial, maddening, etc. but hardly mundane. Guaranteed to start spirited discussions. We'll start gathering in front of the building at 5:30 and be ready to go up the elevators by 5:40. 2 hrs. is a long time for viewing, 90 min is more realistic; will start our social at a pizzeria at 7:10. We'll be joined by a a few members of photography meetup group that should bring another perspective of the exhibits.

Had a great time, so many works to see. Digne was a fabulous organizer, I appreciate his knowledge of photography.

Always interesting contemporary art: Alfredo de Stefano at Koch Gallery presented intriguing landscape photos; Gross Gallery's abstract paintings were good; McLoughlin Gallery have the fun and trendy art; and most puzzling are the photos of braille books of classic novels at Wirtz Gallery. The three of us were sharp critics but we weren't bored by any of it.

Thank you Digne for planning this. It was fun going through the different galleries with you and Maria and viewing the art in part through your eyes.

I'm very sorry for the last minute cancellation - had a last minute emergency arise. I hope you all enjoy the evening!
