Elizabeth Sunday, Bay Area photographer presents her photos of Africa

I have yet to visit the Museum of the African Diaspora (MOAD), and I find the work of this Bay Area based photographer a good reason to make the short trek. She has a unique method of photographing her subjects and because she has lived with these indigenous groups for extended periods the photos also shows her understanding of them. Having the artist present her work and life in Africa is a special event most museum goer's shouldn't miss. This a onetime event.

Museum press release:

Elisabeth Sunday will present her work from the past 26 years from her time living with indigenous groups in Africa. On a walk through of her gallery, she will share her experience and techniques for capturing the images in her Taureg Portfolio.

For 26 years, Bay Area-based photographer Elisabeth Sunday has found inspiration in the peoples, cultures and traditions of Africa. She has traveled alone and has lived among various indigenous peoples documenting how they sustain their traditional ways of life in a rapidly changing world. Sunday is widely recognized as an art photographer with a distinctive vision. Utilizing a flexible mirror of her own design, Sunday photographs her subjects' reflections in a way that blends and dissolves the boundaries between figures and their environment.

The museum fee is $10 for adults; $5 for seniors (65+)

The artist's presentation is from 2:00-4:00 including a book signing. I'm not staying for the book signing in order to have our group discussion from about 3:30-4:30 at a nearby eatery. Those who want to see the other museum exhibits should see it before the presentation. We'll be joined by a photography group.

Elizabeth Sunday gave a great presentation: passed her photos to the audience, described her process, the initial inspiration and now she's exploring bronze sculpture. Group gathered at a soup bar to discuss the presentation afterwards.
