Come along in the evening of Saturday 2nd March to the Network Theatre near Waterloo station to see the Christopher Marlowe play 'Dr Faustus'.
About the play
Are you predestined to come?
Will you choose to?
Or will you throw a six to start?
Marlowe’s classic morality play, of a hero gone bad, is reinterpreted and directed by Bernie C. Byrnes. Did our hero choose his own way or was his destiny predetermined? If we are all truly damned, what point is there in being good?
Set in London in the 1970’s against a backdrop of IRA bombings, eminent physician Dr Faustus despairs at the lottery of death and destruction. He damns the law, science and God and seeks power and riches through black magic. Faustus dices with the devil and strikes a bargain for ultimate power in exchange for his soul.
Four and twenty years of absolute power and corruption later, as we reach the new millennium, the devil collects from Faustus. But man still struggles with his place in the universe, religious troubles continue to dominate the news, and random bombings lend an air of chance to any journey.
About Christopher Marlowe
Christopher Marlowe was born in Canterbury in 1564, (the same year as Shakespeare) was a playwright and poet who performed his plays at the Rose theatre. He greatly influenced Shakespeare when Shakespeare acted in some of Marlowe's plays when he first came to London. At the height of his fame, Marlowe was stabbed and died in a tavern brawl in 1593 aged only 29.
About the Network Theatre
The Network Theatre is a hidden gem - a "better than fringe" theatre hidden under Waterloo Station in London. They feature productions from their in-house company, Network Theatre Company, as well as visiting companies.
The theatre is located at: 246a Lower Road, Waterloo and is quite tricky to find, so try and make it to the pub beforehand if you can.
Tickets are £12 each and can be purchased online here...
The play starts at 7:30pm and lasts about 2 hours.
If you can't see us, give me a call or text.
Hope to see you there.
Regards
Robert

Great standard of production. Despite the dark subject matter, the play was well edited by Bernie Byrnes, & was well-paced & slick... There were some very talented people in the cast... really great to see a rarely performed play done so well!

If you've ever wanted to get involved in theatre, whether it be acting or behind the scenes, the Network Theatre is a great place to start. They are all volunteers and all the actors have day jobs, so if you fancy it, let me know on the evening and I will introduce you to a few people.
