Come along on Saturday 30th March at 2pm for a guided walk along the Roman Wall.
About the walk
We will be walking the route of the old Roman Wall, starting at Tower Hill and finishing near Blackfriars. The wall was built between 190AD and 225AD and defined the shape of the City of London. As the City expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries a lot of the wall was knocked down, although there is a bit left.
We will be following the wall using a Braun & Hogenberg map (below) which was drawn in 1572, which shows the wall intact and one of the first maps to be drawn of London. Using the map, we will be able to see not only what the Roman's built, but also how the wall was adapted and what was built around it in the 16th century when the map was drawn. We can then compare this by what exists on and around the wall today, some 1800 years after it was built.

The guided walk will be led by myself. Full Member’s 2013 will be free, everyone else the walk will be £5 each.
We walk about 2 miles and so expect it to take about 2 hours 30mins. We finish near Blackfriars.
If you can't see us outside the station, please call.
Look out for the group sign -

Hope to see you there!

From Trajan to the Black Friars! This was a memorable walk. It was very educational learning about Roman London and finding so many parts of the wall still standing. Very enjoyable walk!

Very interesting and enjoyable walk, despite the cold and snow - but we're getting used to that now!. As always, I end up realising how much I still don't know about my home city, London. Nice warm and cosy pub finished the day off nicely. Look forward to the next one.

Very educational, good fun, very chilly with only a few flurries of snow, a little sunshine. Excellent pub and beer in the Blackfriars at the end where we thawed out and chatted. A nice bunch of people. Especial thanks to Robert for organising and leading us and to Jules, Jackie, Carol and Vicky (sorry if I have the names mixed up or mis-spelled) for making me so welcome.
