'The Roman Wall - then & now' Guided Walk

Come along on Sunday 31st March at 2pm for a guided walk along the Roman Wall.
About the walk
We will be walking the route of the old Roman Wall, starting at Tower Hill and finishing near  Blackfriars. The wall was built between 190AD and 225AD and defined the shape of the City of London.  As the City expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries a lot of the wall was knocked down, although there is a bit left.

We will be following the wall using a Braun & Hogenberg map (below) which was drawn in 1572, which shows the wall intact and one of the first maps to be drawn of London.  Using the map, we will be able to see not only what the Roman's built, but also how the wall was adapted and what was built around it in the 16th century when the map was drawn.  We can then compare this by what exists on and around the wall today, some 1800 years after it was built.



 

 


The guided walk will be led by myself.  Full Member’s 2013 will be free, everyone else the walk will be £5 each.

We walk about 2 miles and so expect it to take about 2 hours 30mins.  We finish near Blackfriars.

    Sorry Robert, just got off Tower Hill station, Northern line nit working so had a bit if an odyssey and then train stopped just before here for a few nins. Is it possible to catch the group half way ?

      I did Sat walk and also couldn't find statue of Trajan just spotted group as they set off! Hope u do walk as very enjoyable and informative a good group.

    Very disappointed. Got there at 1.50 and waited by the Trajan statue till 2.15pm. No one showed up. Then a few snowflakes fell so decided to come home.

      Nina, I got there at 2 and there were loads of the group there. Robert waited a good few minutes before starting the talk/tour as a French tour-guide nearby was talking quite loudly. We were well-underway by the time the bit of snow fell - did you forget about the time-change per chance?
