Improve Your Knowledge: Tudor & Stuart London

From the fourth session of the Improve Your Knowledge series, we will be covering the Tudor and Stuart periods and what London was like in those times. 

This session covers the period 1485 to 1714 AD and so we will be covering Henry VIII, Shakespeare, Elizabeth I, the Plague and the Great Fire of London.

The sessions are aimed at people who want to learn more about this period of history and will be at a beginner to intermediate level.

About the sessions
 The sessions will be titled Improve Your Knowledge (IYK) and are aimed at members who want to learn more about various periods of London’s history and how it has affected the London of today.  They will be hosted by myself and will take the form of a PowerPoint presentation with questions. 

They will educate you on each period of London's History and refer to places we have visited and objects we have seen in the past year, as well as places we will be visiting in 2012.

They will take place at the Museum of London’s Archaeology Archive and during the presentations will have a unique opportunity to be hands on with some of the objects they have in their archive relating to each period.  An archaeologist from the achive will also be able to tell you more about the objects on display.

 The periods we will be covering and the dates for the remaining sessions are:

  • Georgian (1714 - 1836) - Wed 16th May
  • Victorian (1837 - 1902) - Wed 13th Jun

  

  

 

 

 

 

 

 



The cost to attend to cover the room hire is £5 for Full Members and £6 per person for non-Full Members, which includes tea/coffee at the venue. 

We should finish by about 8:15pm, when we will head to the pub:  'The William Blake' at 174-180 Old Street.

We will be starting the session at 7pm on the dot, so don't be late!

 Hope to see you there, if you can't find the venue, please call.  The venue it about a 10-15 minute walk from Old Street Station, but you can get a bus from Old Street, the 141, 271, 21 and 76 buses from City Road all stop at the bottom of Eagle Wharf Road.
