From June, we will be having three Friday late night guided tours round the National Portrait Gallery, with each one on a different theme.
They will be on:
Friday 22nd June - Kings & Queens
Friday 20th July - Writers & Poets
Friday 17th August - Architects, Artists & Explorers
For the first session, we will be covering portraits of Kings & Queens through the ages like: Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Richard III, Henry V, Charles I, Oliver Cromwell, Queen Victoria.
About the National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery houses portraits of historically important and famous British people, selected on the basis of the significance of the sitter, not that of the artist. The collection includes photographs and caricatures as well as paintings, drawings and sculpture. The gallery opened in 1856 and currently houses over 10,000 paintings.
We will split into two groups and will be guided by two brilliant guides: Lucinda Hawksley & Andy Pankhurst (both guides we used last year for our series of tours round the National Gallery).
Lucinda is a history of art teacher and has written many books on art history and the pre-raphaelites. She is also the great-great-great-granddaughter of the Victorian novelist Charles Dickens. On the tour she will be talking more on the history behind the paintings.
Andy is a full time artist and lecturer, so on the tour he will be talking more on the style/technique of the paintings.

The guided tour lasts about 1 hour 30mins (1 hour round the gallery and 30 mins asking the guides questions back in the cafe). The cost is £8 for Full Member's and £10 for non-Full Member's (payable on the day).
Afterwards we will head to the gallery cafe for a chat over a drink.
If you can't see us outside the station, please call.
Look out for the group sign -

Hope to see you there!
Regards
Robert

It was an interesting tour of the gallery but it was bit disorganised as we had to change course or wait a few times when we bumped into the other half of the tour. It would have been better if it was done in chronological order and if we could've all fit in the cafe after the tour for Q & A as planned.

Andy the guide was very good and gave a very good overview of some of the best paintings of kings and queens in the gallery.
June 24
Freindly group, enjoyed the tour.
June 23
The guide (the man) was disappointing

Hi Robert, its my first time to join a meetup group, is it too late to sign up for the event? Saw one guy drop out, but I am still on the waitlist.
June 22
Fine to bring a guest. I won't be aloud to carry the sign around the gallery, but if you call when you get there and I will let you know where we are.
June 22
Hi Robert. Is the event full? I'd like to bring someone with me - would that be ok? Thanks, Carole Ann
June 22
Hi Robert, I may be a little late. Do you carry that big sign around inside, in case I have to look for you there? :)
June 22
We are easy to spot, lookout for for the Cultureseekers sign. If we miss you at the entrance, we are gathering in the main hall of the gallery near the escalators.
June 21
Hi Robert. I would like to meet you outside the Gallery at 6:45. I don't have a cell phone at the moment. Will you be hard to spot?
Looking forward to attending my first event.
