Come along on Saturday 1st December at either 12:45pm, 1:45pm or 2:45pm for a visit to the Royal Academy of Music.
We are entering at 3 different time slots as the museum is small.
About the Royal Academy of Music
The Royal Academy of Music was founded in 1822 and is an institution of world renown, training nearly 700 students from over 50 countries in over 20 musical disciplines.
It's Museum has three permanent galleries, alongside regularly changing displays and exhibitions. Together they cover an array of eras, instruments and subjects, from the finest 17th-century Cremonese violins to the cast of a 20th-century conductor’s hand.
We will also be able to have a demonstration of the historic piano's being used.
The museum's temporary exhibition: 'Dickens and Music' delves into Dickens’s connections to the Victorian musical world, from opera to street ballads. The novelist’s social and geographical connections to the Academy itself are also explored.
The exhibition contains an original unpublished letter penned by Charles Dickens and also his sister Fanny’s (who was a student of the academy) youthful attempts at musical composition.
Musical re-imaginings of Dickens’ great works of fiction also feature prominently. From their first publication to the present day, the exhibition shows how his stories are endlessly transposed into popular song, opera, drama and even modern-day West End musicals.

Entry is free. The visit round the museum is self guided.
Afterwards we will head to a local pub for a chat over a drink.
If you can't see us outside the station, please call.
Look out for the group sign -

Hope to see you there!
Regards
Robert

Museum? Well.... so so... I was hoping to see the pianos.
But the concert was brilliant...

I loved the imagination used in such a small space with a fairly serious topic... People do take music seriously, but I felt enlightened about a lot of things when I left... I especially loved the Dickens through music section! Great little exhibit! Pity there were problems with the humidity controls which meant the piano gallery was closed...

Hi Rob,
Cannot make it this time.
Apologies.
Enjoy the museum and see u soon ;)
December 1
After the visit I was looking forward to drinks and a chat but I arrived at what I thought was the worst choice of venue. - a noisey pub that was full to capacity with cheering football fans. I didn't bother to stay.
December 1
An impressive strings collection; plan to go back when the keyboards are on display.

I want to thank Robert for making me aware of a museum I loved & which I previously knew nothing about! I loved the violins & especially the stradivarius instruments in the collections... I also thoroughly enjoyed the Dickens in music exhibition! Wonderful & so insightful! I am very sorry not to have been able to attend the free concert, but I also applaud Robert for making enquiries & making it possible on the day, which is both great initiative & going the extra mile! I enjoyed the ambiance of the Globe pub & can see why Robert chose it... despite the football match there were plenty of quiet tables upstairs. Thank you for a terrific day!

I have visited this museum twice since I live here (two months ago). This will be the third time: it is really small, but lovely, and with a lot of selected pianos which show us the evolution of this instrument. I love it!
