Running through the heart of London; the Thames has played a central role in the history of the city, and when the tide is low, the capital’s longest archaeological site is revealed.
Come along on Sunday 13th January to explore 10,000 years of London’s dynamic history...
Guided by Nathalie, an archaeologist from the Museum of London, we will be going down to the Thames foreshore at low tide near Cannon Street , where we will have about 1h 30mins to have a look around for objects before the tide comes in (hence the early start).
Any objects you find you can keep and Nathalie will be on hand to identify and date objects. Most objects you can spot sitting on the foreshore after being washed in on the tide or by kicking back a few stones with your feet.

Due to Health & Safety, we are limited to 25 people. The foreshore is very stoney, so please wear sensible shoes (preferably walking boots/wellington boots).
Cost is £7 per person. Plastic gloves will be provided.
Afterwards we will head to a local coffee shop for a hot drink and a chat.
If you can't see us outside the station, please call.
Look out for the group sign -

Hope to see you there!
Regards
Robert

For anyone that found part of a claypipe on the foreshore that has markings on it, you can identify and date it here: http://www.museumoflondon.org.u...![]()

Excellent forage on the foreshore. Even found some ancient Roman things. All on a Sunday morning.

Absolutely wonderful!! I have always been fascinated by the Thames & deeply interested in history & archaeology! This was everything you wanted rolled into one! I found Medieval, Tudor & 18th century pottery as well as several fragments of clay pipes... the finds of the day were exciting & Natalie from the Museum of London was really warm, knowlegable, informative & friendly... I loved that she took us up to Walbrook to tell us about the dig happening there, although she had no obligation to do so, & it was lovely that she joined us at the coffee stop! I can't recommend attending a similar event enough! If you're not sure whether it's for you - give it a shot!!

Really brilliant morning. Lovely lady from the Museum of London and I think she said Thames Discovery organisation - anyway, she was on hand to give information about every aspect of 'mudlarking'. Someone found a brilliant piece of what is thought to be Roman pottery with a face. Jealous? Moi?
Great morning - thanks very much Robert for organising this.

Hey there, has anyone seen the series 'Mud Men' with Steve Brooker and Johnny Vaughan. It's a funny, fantastic forage on the foreshore of the Thames. Now I get the chance to do the same myself. Wish Steve Brooker was gonna be there!
