#3 of Nine Nights of Music @ the History Center-Rockin Rondo Quartet

Tonight's concert is honoring the 30th Anniversary of Rondo Day's. The Rockin' Rondo Quartet features well known St. Paul musician T. Mychael Rambo, the Half Pintz Drill Team, Walker West Jazz Ensemble & more. Get your groove on with Jazz, and Rhythm & Blues. I bet no one will be sitting still for this show.  Rondo Day's celebrates the once thriving African American neighborhood that was destroyed when Hyw. 94 was built.
Dance instruction at 6:30, live music starts at 7:00.  I think this will be a popular show. I would definitely plan to come early if you can.  LOOK FOR US ON THE SIDE CLOSEST TO THE DANCE AREA, WE TRY TO SAVE A BLOCK OF SEATS STARTING IN THE BACK ROW OF THE BENCHES AND GOING BACK TO THE GRAY TEMPORARY CHAIRS. LOOK FOR OUR SIGNS.

If it looks like rain or inclement weather the concerts are moved inside to the History Center auditorium. They usually make that decision earlier in the day, if concerts are moved inside, only 336 spaces are available and  tickets are handed out on a first come, first serve basis. Dancing is moved to the stage.

Are you ready to enjoy some awesome music and dance to your hearts content, picnic outdoors in a beautiful setting and if you choose, you can even check out the History Center as well.

If this sounds like fun to you, please join us for the 16th annual ‘Nine Nights of Music.’ The best part is the only charge is for parking. People even manage to find free parking on the streets around the History Center. Bring your own food and refreshments or purchase burgers and brats there. Even chairs are provided. All concerts are held on the spacious patio on the second level of the History Center that overlooks downtown St. Paul. I suggest getting there early to get parking, but if that is not an issue for you come when you can.

Each week there is a different theme and prior to most concerts, the Tapestry Folk Dance Center provides dance instructions based on that nights theme from 6:30 to 7:00. (in the end, everyone ends up doing there own thing.) For those of us who prefer to sit out the dancing, the people watching and photo ops are excellent. Unless noted, the live music goes from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Be sure to carefully read each announcement.

Last summer several of us made it to all nine concerts and I can honestly say, there wasn’t a single one that we didn’t enjoy. Some of us get there early and try to save a block of seats, we always have our sign. Some folks prefer to bring a lawn chair and sit on the lawn.  The most important thing is to have fun anyway you want to do it. I won’t name names, but we have some pretty good dancers in our group, come and discover who they are.

Following tradition, following the concert, we like to gather at a local restaurant for food and conversation, or just plain old socializing.

If it rains the concert moves inside to the auditorium, so don't let the rain stop you.
