Tour and Tasting @ Sociable Cider Werks

I was very excited to learn about Sociable Cider Werks from one of our members, being a fan of both good old fashioned cider and hard cider, (one assistant organizer is too!) I knew this was a place we had to visit.  This is a private tour for our group. The tour will include tastings right from the barrels in different stages of brewing. Jim, the owner, will also talk about the process and history of cider, so you can definitely call this an educational experience. Please try to get there by 3:45, so we can start our tour at 4:00. Their happy hour goes from 4:00-6:00, which means that if you wish you can join the crowd in the taproom after our tour.  For those who aren't big cider fans, Jim said to let you know that they also brew their own beer. I know this is kind of a strange time, but Jim said he wants to make Thursday's his group tour day and I make it a point to schedule a time that is best for the venue. The cost for this tour is $3.00, we will collect the payment at the door, prepayment is not needed. I have been asked to limit the number of guests to 25, please be considerate of both the group and our host and remember to update your RSVP if your plans change. Jim also said to tell you that if you google them, the 1500 Fillmore Street address is correct and there is a large free parking lot, the entrance is easy to miss because it is not well marked. SORRY, I HAVE TO SAY ADULTS ONLY, FOR THIS TOUR.

THE STORY BEHIND THE CIDER

Sociable is driven by a pretty simple vision.  Cider should be much more than the lightly-alcoholic, made-from-concentrate, sweet apple juice boxes that currently dominate the shelf space.  Sociable apple graffs are well carbonated, dry and always made from real apples.  Simply put, they should be enjoyed like great draught beer. Sociable is not just hard cider, we're much more.

IT ALL STARTED IN THE GARAGE

Jim and Wade started Sociable Cider like a lot of small businesses, in the garage.  The long time friends and former roommates would often dream of hanging up their ties & retiring their face razors to take a crack at the American Dream.  The Sociable Cider Werks business plan was conceived by two pretty likely culprits: loads of test batches and an 8,000 mile road-trip though the country's cideries, breweries and distilleries.  A short time later our little cider house was born right here in Nordeast Minneapolis.

One question we get all the time is, "are your apple graffs celiac safe?"  YES!  While we didn't set out to make a gluten free product, we realize that many celiacs enjoy cider because it is a naturally gluten free product.  On our path to creating delicious and unique graffs we created some recipes that are brewed using malted grains.  It is all very technical, but in short we have done loads of research and product development to make sure each of our graff products is completely safe for Celiacs.  We use the same techniques used in crafting Estrella's award-winning Daura gluten-free beer.  For more information on the process, check out the link.

HOW TO FIND SOCIABLE CIDER WERKS FROM 35W NORTHBOUND:

1.  Take 35W north to the Johnson St. NE exit (21B)

2.  Continue on Johnson to 18th Ave NE where you will take a left

3.  Continue on 18th to Fillmore St. NE where you will take a left

4.  In 2 blocks look for the Sociable Cider sign and the entrance on your right

Please join us at one of North East's eateries after our tour for food and socializing and you will be able to avoid rush hour traffic completely.
