Beneath the Surface | Historic Fort Snelling‏

Please have your payment to me no later then June 1st.
THIS IS A PREPAY TOUR. PAYMENTS ACCEPTED ON PAY PAL, AMAZON OR BY A PERSONAL CHECK. WE NEED A MINIMUM OF 12 PEOPLE TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN AND A MAXIMUM OF 50. THE COST IS $19.00 SENIORS AND $23.00 FOR ADULTS. AS WITH MOST MHS SITES, THERE IS NOT A DISCOUNT FOR MHS MEMBERS ON PRIVATE TOURS.

There is no better way to get to know some of our favorite places then a behind the scenes tour. This one promises to be one of the best. My contact at Fort Snelling alerted me to this program, knowing it would be perfect for us. My response was sign us up. Many of us have been to Fort Snelling before, but what we've seen only scratches the surface of what's been discovered below the grounds we've walked on., The Fort has been an archaeological dig site for years, we will get to see the results of their work, most of which will never be seen by the public. This will be an experience to remember. YOUR ADVANCE PAYMENT WILL GET YOU ACCESS TO THE FORT PRIOR TO OUR TOUR. IF YOU WISH TO COME EARLY AND EXPLORE THE FORT. I will be providing the tour office with a list of names of those who have paid, Our tour is scheduled to start at 1:00, PLEASE PLAN TO MEET IN THE VISITORS CENTER NO LATER THEN 12:45.

Have you ever lost something? Imagine that someone hundreds of years in the future found it. What story do you think this item would tell about who you were and the way you lived? Join us for Beneath the Surface and you’ll see how archaeologists and historians do just that – piece together clues from the past to understand the puzzle of life hundreds of years ago. During this special behind-the-scenes program you’ll tour the historic fort to learn about one of the largest excavations of a military post in North America. You'll tour both restored and reconstructed buildings, and learn about how the clues uncovered by archaeologists helped us learn about the lives of the people who called the fort home. You'll also visit the archaeology lab and handle some of the original treasures unearthed at Fort Snelling. Together with others on the tour, you'll work to identify objects and try to understand the stories they tell. By the end, you'll see how understanding the past helps us better understand ourselves today and in the future. Length: 2.5 hours

I also want to give you a heads up on another popular event. We had a great time at last Fall's CSI History Mystery. Just as soon as I get the details on when tickets can be purchased I will get the announcement posted. We will be going on the adult only Friday nights in October.

This was so interesting and fun. I learned so much. I was so glad to hear that everyone enjoyed the tour as much as I did. I made it a point to call the office to let them know how much we enjoyed the tour and to thank them for the opportunity. You were all real troopers putting up with the wind and the rain. Be sure to sign up for the History Mystery when when RSVP's officially open.

Very nice tour thanks Linda and Tammy. I had to leave a bit early as I didn't realize it would run as long as it did. Thanks for all the work you do to find these interesting things for us to experience!

Sadly, I have to cx, as I am not feeling well at all. Please use my $$ to support someone else in attending, or simply put it toward general funds for the group.

I checked out where the Visitor center was and there are other ways to get there besides post road. But when I got to where the signs for it, I think I was on tower road. But just follow the visitor sign and not the street sign and you should be ok

Hi Linda, Is this happening rain or shine... or thunderstorm?

    • Linda B.

Yes, I believe most of our activities will be inside. Although you will probably want an umbrella just in case.

I paid, there seems to be plenty of parking near by, and it looks like walking distance from the train for those who use it. Looking forward to another great meet up!

If we're on the waitlist, do we pay somehow, once we move to the 'accepted' list?

    June 9, 2014

  • Tammy S.

We are still only at about 1/2 who have paid. If you want to go, please send your payment via PayPal or send check to Linda with email letting her know "it is in the mail" by June 1st. I want to remind everyone that Linda becomes responsible for payment based on the count she gives them. On June 1st, she will be giving the count based on who has paid. Please update your RSVP if you are not going.

    Thanks!

Hi Joanie, I'd like to go early to tour the fort. Can you believe I've never been there before? And I grew up in Mpls!
