There are very few opportunities in Atlanta for those who share a love for these genres of music to play together, or for that matter even hear such music live. Hopefully this forum will result in gatherings, in which each of us might start with a taqsim and build from there -- exploring, creating, and developing incredible music which arises from and hovers around the Mediterranean basin - Gypsy, Balkan, Arabic, Rebetika, Turkish, Flamenco...
Many instruments are welcome. For example: VOICE, oud, buzuq, bouzouki, violin, tar, def, riq, guitar, clarinet, flute, ney, saz, doubek.........Please share your interests when you join, and mention the instrument(s) you might play, as well as performers, genres, and CD's you love. We will eventually meet and play together.... and it will be a good thing. (Oh, by the way.... the picture out there to the right is of one of my favorite groups, Bratsch---who probably fall into the category of Gypsy & Dilo)

"It still chaps my hide that among all the people interested in playing, we have no place to just congregate and enjoy hearing each other play. A park? A coffee shop? a Church?"

"Hello. I'm an avid & passionate fan of Gypsy/Roma music. I have a mandolin & played 20 yrs ago, but have just recently picked it up again. My knowledge & experience are merely fledgling, but I'm eager to learn techniques by seeing great live music."
