Denise, Hi...Hope you, Bob, and your kids had a nice summer. I really have to talk with you about a very unsettling incident which occurred at The Studio tonight. When I came in (at about 8:40), there was no one at the desk. I waited for about 5 minutes; and since no one came, I figured I'd to go into a jam room and pay later. Went out to pay at about 9:45. Again, no one was at the desk. Looked around; and waited for about another five minutes. No one came. So, again, I went back into the room in which I was jamming. Went out again to pay @ about 10:45--and this time Emily was at the desk. I give her my $20, and explained what happened. Instead of her thanking me for my honesty, etc., she actually raised her voice to me, saying "that this better not happen again" because "if she had 'caught' me singing without paying, then I'd have to be kicked out!!!!" She spoke to me like I was some type of criminal, when all I was doing was being honest.
Now, I haven't jammed in quite some time; but one of the last times I went on a Saturday night, a similar thing happened. I didn't arrive until 10:00 that night. And when I got there, again, no one was at the desk. That time I waited until 10:15 before going into a room; figuring that I'd pay later. I believe that I did eventually run into Emily upon going to the bathroom at 10:45. Immediately, I told her what had happened; and presented her with my $20. She did thank me for my honesty on that occasion. However, that night, since I didn't actually get into a jam room until about 10:20, since there was no one there to open the door to the room in which I originally wanted to jam, I asked her if it was possible that I pay $10 instead of $20. She said "no, because you wouldn't allow it." Though I thought it was wrong, paid $20; and never mentioned the incident to you, nor to anyone else. Believe me, the last thing I'd ever want to do is get someone in trouble. But this time was different---I was made to feel embarrassed by her; just for doing the right thing. You know what they say: "No good deed goes unpunished." Best, always,--gayle
