A discussion and Q/A with Larry Miller, the VP of Strategic Marketing at Sony/ATV
At 22 years old – Larry Mills started his career in the music business by launching an independent record company called Steam Records. Steam Records put out early releases byRusted Root, Lisa Loeb, Shawn Mullins, Kristian Bush (Sugarland) and Steve Ellis, the founder of Pump Audio.
Larry went on to start a second label, Autonomous Records, which launched the careers of platinum artists Sister Hazel and Creed. Autonomous was acquired by Roadrunner Records in 1997. After a brief run with Roadrunner Records, Larry started a few entertainment companies including an artist management company, a television production company and sports marketing firm.
In 2006 Larry was hired by Pump Audio as their VP of Marketing and Partnerships one year before Pump was acquired by Getty Images, where Larry became their Director of Music Products.
It was from there in February of 2011, that Larry was recruited to become the first VP of Strategic Marketing for Sony/ATV Music Publishing, where he currently looks for new and interesting ways to promote, develop and monetize songs and songwriters from one of the largest music publishers in the world.
