CSPAN BookTV's Online Book Club will be having a live discussion of Michelle Alexander's The New Jim Crow this month on March 26, 2013 @ 9pm ET.
Ohio NORML will be using this as an opportunity to have multiple discussion groups based in various homes and public places to view the live broadcast and participate in the live discussion as well. I would encourage your groups to use this as focus discussion and meeting.
Michelle Alexander argues that the get-tough-on-crime policies that began in the early 1970s were enacted in an effort to push back the gains of the Civil Rights Movement. This effort, she says, has been successful. Prof. Alexander spoke at the University of Tennessee at an event hosted by the university's Africana Studies Program.
