LET'S TALK ABOUT IT (Resolutions On The Rocks)

Ladies, this is the time when we realize we were either very intoxicated when we made some of our New Year resolutions or we were talking just to have something to say, for to adhere to them would be like trying to walk from one end of the earth to the other. Or, we stand here today to tell how successful we've been thus far in sticking to the promises we made not to others, but to ourselves. What resolutions are posted on your bedroom mirror, or on your desk at work? Or on the fridge, or in your journal? Let's talk about it. Over drinks. For those of you who are successful still, we'd love to get some insight. And those who, well, aren't so successful, you may need a drink as you figure out why it hasn't worked this time around, why your resolutions are on the rocks. Let's talk about what it is we hoped to have become, what we wanted so badly that we said, "The time is now; I'm doing it." Let's laugh together, shed a tear or two, come together as we bond in friendship and realize that, resolution or no resolution we are all beautiful, courageous, wonderful women on the verge of taking the world by its tail. Resolution or no resolution, let's live out loud. Let's talk about whatever moves us on this day. Let's dare to be who we truly are and celebrate US. Over drinks. At noon! We ask that each attendee bring an inexpensive bottle of wine, a signature drink, or anything alcohol:), or bring a light dish to accommodate a small gathering. Please list what you will bring so that your event hosts can determine what else is needed. If you are unable to contribute, please don't fret; come anyway! We hope to see you there.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE ARE SEVERAL CATS IN THE HOUSE, SO IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC PLEASE TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION.

This is an annual event, a popular one. Please be mindful when RSVPing that you are really planning on attending, so as not to tentatively take a spot that can be filled by another sister who can definitely make it.

Btw in the self defense class today we learned what to do to defend ourselves if we are awakened by someone who is trying to assault us.
Next week, I will email a copy of my graduation invitation to Kim to post. The graduation is open to everyone.

Thanks to everyone for their openness, it's so nice to see such warmth and caring from everyone as the sisters were sharing their goals and challenges. And thanks also for cleaning up the kitchen, I really appreciate it!

What a fabulous event with my MSK sisters, and a great way to get to know each other on more than a casual basis. I am very glad I attended. You are all beautiful women and I enjoyed bonding with everyone over our stories.

Before I leave for my MSK book club meeting today, I'd like to thank Carol for her warm hospitality. Thank you, too, Beautiful Ladies, for sharing your food and drink, your hopes and aspirations, your cares and concerns, and your ideas and advice. It is inspiring to see my Sisters supporting each other!

It tastes so good that it's easy to let it sneak up on you, which was my case. I kept drinking and drinking, then BAM - I was a little more than tipsy!

I can't ask for a better group of women to hang with, bond with, become friends with. The sisters at the Resolutions event reminded me how much I love this group and that they're not only my sisters, but are my KEEPERs too. I had a great time. The food and drink were superb!

I just want to thank ALL my lovely sisters whom I was able to share with today. I had a wonderful time spending time with you. Carol I especially want to thank you for providing us with such a beautiful, relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Oh and darn, I left my shot glass, the supplied paperwork and my raffle won'd journal there. :-(

No worries Mikela, Carol keeps a special box where she puts such things until she sees you again.

Oh no I just noticed I got bumped up to going from waiting list. I will swing by and get a brownies and I will be late.

    January 26, 2013

Quintette, carrot cake YES!!! Carrots are a veggie. You are helping me keep my resolution to eat more veggies with my cake.

    January 22, 2013

I'm probably just bringing a drink... Ingredients for fruity cocktails get expensive fast.. Oh Carol do you happen to have a big punch bowl? And I will be a little late. Have an eyebrow appointment at 1130 so probably will be about 1230 when I get there.

    January 25, 2013

    • Carol

Yes I have a punch bowl and you are welcome to use it.

      January 25, 2013

Hummus and chips. Carol, do you need any plastic utensils? If so, I can bring. Can't wait.

    January 25, 2013

    • kenyarda

Carol is fancy! No paper or plastic for her. :-)

ha ha ha - I just figure why do I have this stuff if I don't use it (and I DO hate eating on paper plates).

      January 25, 2013

  • Andrea

    I will bring chicken salad.

    Hi Carol!
I'm unable to attend the meeting this coming up weekend, I'm going out of town. Due to being on the waiting list I thought the odds were slim so I decided to go out of town with my family. I look forward in attending the next event.

WHY we don't keep our self-commitments goes back to our early childhoods...I would like to attend but seems there is a waiting list...how can I confirm my attendance ?

    1 · January 22, 2013

    • Carol

Hi Pegi - Welcome to My Sister's Keeper! This is a popular event with a long waiting list already, but you never know, people's plans change - so go ahead and RSVP to the wait list and if people cancel, those on the wait list will be moved up in the order they RSVP'd

      January 22, 2013

  • Quinnette

I haven't decided what I am bringing. I have been in the mood for carrot cake.......

I know it's only day 20 in the New Year, but I'm doing great with my one resolution. "Keep on keeping on". I can't wait to share.

    January 20, 2013

  • Joan R.

Wish I could come, but I've got another commitment later in the day and I don't feel I can manage both. Two resolutions broken--not to overcommit myself and not to give myself anxiety attacks.

    1 · January 19, 2013

  • Dee D.

I will be bringing a veggie platter. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Couldn't resist sharing this. It's from a Wall Street Journal article on resolutions.

    Resolve Smarter

Come up with a plan to combat obstacles to your goals:

Avoid 'don't': Simply telling yourself not to do something, like eat junk food or have a cigarette, doesn't work well, research shows.
Prepare an 'if/then' plan: If a challenge or temptation comes up, what will you do?
Be ready to ignore: Preparing yourself to ignore distractions or challenges appears to be particularly effective, studies have found.
Replace: Plan to replace a habit that you want to change with an easy action. For example, if you are tempted by a piece of candy, reach for a piece of fruit instead.

Okay ladies, I'm taking a pole from all who are attending of your favorite wines. This will determine which ones I will bring. You can click "reply" to this individual post instead of creating a new one. Thank you.

Mikela - let's put it this way - whatever you bring, it will get consumed. We don't play with alcohol! Bring what you like, and we will join you in drinking it:)

@Kenyarda and Michelle, I'm with you. My 2012 resolutions were on the rocks on day 2! 2013 - a new me, a new lifestyle. (It sounds good, anyway:)) It will be great to see everyone, and especially to meet our 'new' sisters. I'm looking forward to this event.

I come to this every year and make the same resolution...to lose weight. And I'm still fat. Forget a resolution this year. I'm coming for the alcohol! Of course I will be providing one of my signature cocktails.
