Re: [mysql-5] MySQL Meetup Group Danger

Hi friends,

I have created a Facebook group called MySQL OPRF. Let me know if you are interested in joining. I am not too sure if we need to be connected on FB in order for me to add you to the group, but we will find out.

I imagine we have different skill levels with MySQL. Just a little background of myself, I've done MySQL install on both Linux and Windows, followed the MySQL 4th Edition book from Paul DuBois, maintains my own WordPress blog with MySQL as backend, done some backup, restore, query tuning, Perl hacking especially with Maatkit, helped friends with replication setup, etc. My idea of a group is to play with the software together, share ideas and pointers, and keep each other motivated. Some immediate toys to play with are sandbox, proxy, install and config, Perl scripting with DBD-mysql, etc. I am a professional trainer of Sql Server, so I can do some demo and presentation if needed. Oh, I definitely want to do more with replication.

Anyway, like I said, send me an email if you are interested in meeting in OPRF.

Cheers.

Haidong

Hi all,

I am definitely interested in learning more about the mysql platform. Mysql has tremendous benefits for any company and the power of the database technology is quite interesting. Currently I am working on a project right now which is utilizing mysql for data automation.

I'd like to see the group continue esp. where we can get a projector, wifi and I dunno what else that would allow us to explore the database technology.

Has anyone a contact with Sun Microsystems? They might be able to drop some cash in for the group to continue if it has associated costs.

Thanks.

Regards,

Jeff Alstadt

Thanks guys and gals for the response.

My thought is that for a guy with a young family like me, going out of my way after a days work to attend something that may or may not be productive and coming home exhausted is no longer my cup of tea. Maybe when I was single or kids out of the nest I can do things like that more regularly. And I do think MySQL fans getting together swapping ideas and playing with technology is a good idea, hence my question if there are local interest in the OP/RF and neighboring area.

Having said that, I think by all means, the Chicago meetup should continue if there are interests, because it serves a different demographic than the one I am currently in. So this is not my attempt to fork MySQL into different directions :)

Now Looks like there are some interest in OP/RF, I can go ahead and ask if the Oak Park library could provide us a room for this purpose. Or a location any of you guys can suggest. There are quite a few things that are really pretty cool to discuss and play with, sandbox, mysql proxy (which I know nothing about), drizzle, the new query tool, patches from different companies, etc. I am thinking of creating a facebook group, and invite whoever is interested to join this group, 'cause facebook group is free. So if you are interested, shoot me a private email, and I will put you into the group.

Suggestions welcome.

Haidong

Hi All.

I'd like to keep the meetup somewhere near the "EL".  I thought uncommon ground was a great place to meet, it is only a few blocks from the red line..

Oh and my vote counts extra since I attended the last meeting (j/k).

Thx
