The May meeting of the Boston MySQL User Group will feature Giuseppe Maxia and Kaj Arno, 40% of the community team from MySQL/Sun(/Oracle). Giuseppe will speak about the features, performance, and roadmap of 5.4, the newest version of MySQL.
Abstract:
"MySQL 5.4, the surprise announcement at the MySQL Conference 2009, is a
special edition with one specific purpose: performance.
This session will show how MySQL 5.4 compares to the previous versions,
with some benchmarks and use cases."

bb00p04+1 guestGuiseppe was very kind to speak about what he knew of 5.4 -- the information on Linux for Innodb was very thin when initially it appeared that there would be more work done there. I loved that we could be technical and talk real numbers for benchmarking and performance. I would have loved to see more on what constituted logs and binlogs #'s (as in what features are defaults with show variables) to compare since he went back from 5.1.33 and compared findings to 5.4

Dr. David K. PattersonI have a strong background in performance configuration and tuning of core system components. It was interesting to hear a discusssion of what the MySQL amd Sun has done to increase the performance of MySQL in Version 5.4. Some of the demo examples were interesting, but I'd like to see a more rigorous attention to repeatability and a statistical analysis of the results. All in all, it was a good persentation.

The Boston User Group is one of my favorite audiences. Kind and challenging at the same time. It's always a pleasure to present to such an educated group. Too bad I live far away, but I will come back sooner or later!
