Introduction

Long time DBA with about 3 years MySQL experience, love open source software and the community that has grown up around it. Now working on branching out into some programming and learning DW/BI using open source tools.

Tell us something about your name (first, middle, last, nick, handle, etc).

How did you get interested in: computers, databases, mysql? (pick one or all of the topics)

I loved libraries when I was younger, and using the card catalog and indexes to find data fascinated me. Now I get to work with databases and do all of this online, faster and with much larger data sets.

  • Your (meetup) email isn't working and your blog is stillborn, but I wanted to say hi from another big city enthusiast. When I was doing bike tours (especially Euro), I would schedule a free day in big/new cities to explore, always visiting the major art museum(s), parks, interesting neighborhoods, funky industrial areas, etc. It was also a blast to enter a new city by bicycle, getting both a tactile and visual sense of it. Definitely a minority avocation. tschüss

  • Hi Pam,
Welcome to the group! I hope to meet you soon at an upcoming event. I haven't been to one yet, but so far everyone I have come in contact with seems great. I noticed your meetup about yoga on your profile. Have you been to that meetup? I am a plus size woman and like yoga but always feel uncomfortable because of my size.. I was wondering if that might be something worth checking out. Well again, welcome to group, hope to hear from you soon.

  • Hi Pam,
I had such a good time this afternoon. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. I'm a clipaholic; I clip things out of the newpaper or wherever and I found a clipping about Artist & Craftsman Supply store in Cambridge. They are having a big sale until the end of the year so I was thinking that you might want to post the information. www.artistcraftsman.com 580 Massachusetts Ave Cambridge; [masked]. Thanks again, Jan
