  • What was the hardest parts of scaling the HuffingtonPost?
  • Why use Redis? Where is Redis best-suited?
  • Why use MongoDB? Can't we just use MongoDB instead of Redis and MySQL?
  • How does the Lerer Ventures incubator come up with and execute projects? How quickly can you build a new venture?
  • Does CasaHop really use Postgres? Why???
  • How is RebelMouse growing so fast with so few scaling issues?
  • Is Oracle killing MySQL?
  • How do you work with a globally-distributed international development team?

A few people got in late and wanted to see the slides, so I posted them here: https://speakerdeck.com/u/benreg... . Also I mentioned a Facebook tech talk on scaling MySQL (and what they use HBase for), which is here: http://www.livestream.com/fbtec...

Thanks for the slides. I was in the back jotting notes on piece of a napkin about things brought up.

Eric David - is it possible that whatever slides/presentations are done for "database month" be somehow publicly accessible? Thanks

I strongly hope there is some formal presentation and the speakers stick to some content rather than a hands on talk with no presentation and speakers slide in to no where talks - like talk about a query that he (dis)likes for two hours.

I would prefer to see a hands-on presentation unencumbered by stultifying slides, but I'm sure we can trust our presenters to do what's best for their material.

Hi Kaushal, the event starts with a short formal presentation followed by extensive Q&A to answer both the questions outlined in the event description as well as those suggested by the audience.

Nice survey of the newest and the old standby databases

weak. Very little useful information in the presentation, and the presenter seem to almost take pride in not being able to answer specific technical questions with meaningful answers that weren't overly generalized or vague, or with some sort of comedic response.

Good topic, good speaker, a little hard to hear overall.
