What and/or who inspired you to express your natural hair?

In 2003 I was having problems with my kidneys and placed on steroids . I suffered a lot of side effects including hair loss. I had shoulder length hair, which fell out to the point I was wearing wigs. After I stopped taking the steroids and my hair started growing back I was able to wear it styled in micros and mostly kinky twists. Unable to afford both me and my daughters kinky twists, after taking it down from those last twists I realized I had beautiful, natural, curly hair like my dad, it was at that point I said this is the hair that I was given to me by my parents and God. I' ve been chemical free ever since, I love my hair and I love the money I save. I get stares from all races, even my own people. I just remind myself this is the hair God gave me, there's nothing wrong with it, something is wrong with them. I get compliments from other natural sisters, a white woman at my job, some young men, but mostly older black people.
