What and/or who inspired you to express your natural hair?

I decided to go natural when I noticed that my thinning edges were getting worse with every application of relaxer. Once I had an inch of new growth, something awakened in me. I felt a strong desire to see myself with a head full of natural hair because I honestly couldn't remember my natural texture, even though it had only been about 7 years since I was previously natural. Maybe because I subconsciously blocked memories of it out after I started relaxing (I was so addicted to bone-straight hair). It became more of a spiritual journey instead of just a quest to regain a head of healthy hair. Once I had 2 inches of new growth, I made a bold move and chopped off all of the relaxed hair. This should've been liberating, but I still didn't have the strength and confidence needed to accept my hair texture and wear it out. It might sound corny, but I had to do some serious soul searching before I actually stepped out of my house with my natural hair exposed (not in braids).

Introduction

Hi! I'm Liz, and I've been natural for about 5 years. I'm eager to learn more about caring for my natural hair, and I definitely could use some style inspiration. I'm excited about meeting other naturals and sharing with and inspiring others.
