What and/or who inspired you to express your natural hair?

I first developed my natural hair envy by watching the beautiful sisters that expressed their style on You Tube and the internet. I wanted to get away from the chemicals but did not have the skill or the imagination or the courage to go natural. I went from styled permed hair to braid extensions and phony ponies, still using chemicals to keep my edges controlled. My last day with fake hair was the day one of my Caucasian friends complimented my extensions. I burst into tears because I did not feel "authentic." I have nothing against weaves whether they be natural or synthetic. I just could not wear the hair and "own" the look with any amount of confidence. Locks were my salvation. I researched locks for a full year, traditional free form, latched, and sisterlocks. I settled on sisterlocks because of the versatility and have not looked back.

Introduction

Typical black girl hair history. Grew up with press-and-curls, burned ears and neck; progressed to perms with fried ends and edges; at 47 emerged to embrace the texture God gave me. I have been sisterlocked for 2+ years. Best decision I ever made.
