This event will be to assemble the food baskets. A planning meeting will be held on 12/8 to divvy up the baskets and contents but if you can't make that and want to participate, email Chris directly so we can work out details. Light refreshments will be served. Thanks!

There is an organization in Washington DC called “So Other Might Eat (SOME) (www.some.org.)” From their mission statement: “SOME is an interfaith, community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital.”

You'll get lots of joy from knowing that you've made the holiday much brighter for an elderly man or woman. We will be making baskets for SOME. Contents of each basket:
3 cans sweet potatoes
3 cans string beans
1 box of stuffing mix
1 box of instant mashed potatoes
2 cans of gravy
1 can of cranberry sauce
2 cans fruit cocktail
Drink mix or juice concentrate
2 boxes of mac and cheese

Optional contents of each basket:
Signed greeting card
Holiday paper
Table cloth
Plates and cups
A bow
Decorations

From the SOME coordinator, here is her guidance on the “baskets”:
The term "basket" is a broad one; feel free to use any type of container - while we get some actual wicker type baskets, we also see a lot of plastic laundry baskets, and the grocery store type "tote bags" (the ones that keep us from using plastic bags) are increasingly popular. Some folks decorate cardboard boxes, rubbermaid-type bins, you name it. The important thing is to just have fun doing it.

I want to thank everyone that gave their time, talent, and treasure for this event. Thanks to you we ended up with 16 baskets of holiday dinner fixins and decorations for homebound, low-income seniors.
