*Free* Moonrise and Low light in Washington DC

Let's get together and shoot the moonrise over Washington DC. We will meet at Netherlands Carillon near the Iwo Jima Memorial for a fantastic vantage point of the moonrise over the Washington DC mall and monuments.

We will meet at 6:00 pm. The moon will rise at 7:05 pm and after the moonrise we will walk around a bit for some low light photography. We will wrap up around 9:30pm

Here is a TPE screenshot, you can see that the moonrise (light blue line) will be nicely aligned.

Here is a great example of our vantage point. It will be worth crossing the river into Arlington, VA. Thank you Izzy for sharing this shot. More of his photography can be seen on facebook here

You will need a tripod, shutter release, and a zoom lens for the moonrise and a wide lens is suggested for low light landscape shots.

I am willing to carpool from the Annapolis area. If you are interested please email me. [masked] I have room for 3. We would meet at the Park and Ride on Riva Road and leave at 4:30 p.m.

Washington Photo Safari will also be at the same location that night so make sure you find the right group.

There was awesome scaffolding and lighting on the Washington Monument when I was there last week at night.

One good location for capturing moonrise over Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and the Capitol is in front of Netherlands Carillon by Arlington Cemetery. One can capture the moon as it rises over Lincoln Memorial and transverses over Washington Monument and the Capitol.

Here is a link to one of the photos that I took there last year:
