Hello Everyone,

I am looking for one or 2 people with significant Rails experience who have an entrepreneurial interest to discuss ways in which we could work together. This would be something you can do in your spare time. I wouldn't pay you, but I would let you use the Rails system described below (which I have over $150,000 invested in) in return for helping me with it on occasion. I don't have an exact deal structure in mind, but it would be very attractive.

I own a full e-commerce website that had over 2 million visitors last year. From my main website we sell a product worldwide - the sales are 100% to internet traffic. We have been in business for 9 years and I have over 1,000 websites devoted to promoting the product to every sport, schools and churches. The 1,000 websites are like landing pages that feed traffic to my main website - every one of the 1,000 websites is unique and optimized for Google and Bing.

The 1,000 websites are in a Rails system that was developed for me over a period of 3 years by an award winning developer (pardon me if I don't use the correct terminology - I am not a programmer or developer). The system we use involves 4 servers - one controls the system and 3 are "slaves" that the websites are on. We can also run extensive reports that can show  the rankings of hundreds of websites for hundreds of key words. That system involves another 5 servers. I don't know of another system like it. My developer worked for me for 10 years until he developed a system that he sold to a major music company 7 months ago and as part of the deal they insisted on hiring him on a 2-year contract, so he is not available as he once was. He is now very, very busy and on a tight schedule.

The purpose of this Rails system is to allow us to bring online and manage large numbers of websites in a way that achieves first page rankings on Google and Bing/Yahoo. We have achieved spectacular results on Bing/Yahoo (beyond anything you would think possible) and I can show you some amazing results on Google. Out of the 200,000 visitors per month to my main site, 50,000 visitors come from the 1,000 websites - my average CPC is about 25 cents, so you can see the value of this traffic, plus I control domain names that I don't want a competitor to own. We also have PPC campaigns on Google and Bing and the backlinks provided by the 1,000 websites have helped me achieve top rankings for my main website. What we do is far more than "SEO" - that can only go so far. What if you had the benefit of hundreds of relevant optimized websites? That is what I have. The challenge was how to do them so they got ranked and we figured that out.

If you have any interest in internet marketing for yourself or others, give me a call and let's chat to see if there is a way for us to work together. My system has the capacity to add another 2,000 websites and more can be added by adding additional slave servers.

Subject: [ruby-110] Announcing Nashville Software School

We announced this at the last Ruby on Rails meetup but since lots of you weren't
able to be there I wanted to get the news out to the entire
community.  I appreciate Josh letting us use the list.

This summer we are launching Nashville Software School (NSS).  NSS is
focused on helping people with limited or even no formal technical
training/experience qualify for entry-level or junior software
developers jobs.  We're looking for people with the aptitude, desire
and motivation to become software developers but who do not yet have
the training and experience.  Our program is centered around an
apprenticeship model with hands-on work doing real web development or
app development projects combined with lots of mentoring and intensive
training. Students who qualify as an apprentice after the summer
program will start to earn a stipend in September of this year as they
work their way through the apprenticeship program.

NSS is a non-profit started by a group of local software developers
and other tech industry partners who see a critical need to grow our
supply of software talent in Nashville and who believe that
programming is a craft that is best learned by writing a lot of code,
working with other developers, and being mentored by master developers
who know their stuff.

For more information see the NSS website at

Please help us spread the word to your friends who have the aptitude
and motivation to get into web development and are looking for a way
to learn.  Classes for our Web Development Bootcamp start on Monday, 18 June so there is still time to apply.

Any questions, please feel free to email me and ask.
